Pioneer's latest entry into the crowded DVD recorder market stands out for its ease of use, overall performance and value. Plus it offers some unique features such as Divx AVI video playback and multi-media jukebox capabilities.

Excellent DVD Recorder with HDD

 

Let me start out by saying that when I buy something as expensive as this, I research the heck out of it, and the Pioneer DVR-640-HS was not my first choice. I had actually chosen a Pansonic model that was a bit more expensive, but received better ...

One of the largest HDDs I've seen. Highly configurable.

No TV program listings. Limited functionality through the USB port.

I bought the Pioneer 640H after much research and deliberation. This unit is a fantastic piece of work. With that said, you should be aware of its limitations, they may or may not be a problem for you, depending on your needs/expectations. 1) No HDMI ...

Intuitive menus, loads of features, various media playback, responsive recording, quiet, great value.

No HDMI output, lame remote.

Some very good features, plus some major flaws

 

Good size hard drive, Easy Timer is simple. Previous experience with Pioneer has been reliable.

Major: missing firewire connection, remote cannot be programmed to control TV. Jukebox feature is useless.
