Samsung BD-UP5000

With the most recent firmware update, the Samsung BD-UP5000 Duo HD Player is a solid dual-format HD disc player as well as an impressive upscaling DVD player.

Plays Blu-ray and HD DVD discs. Quick start-up. Immediate resume from stopped playback with Blu-ray and DVD movies. Excellent upscaling DVD player. Top-notch HD video-processing quality.

HD DVD PiP displayed with incorrect aspect ratio. No 24-Hz output with DVD video. No raw bitstream output with Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD lossless audio formats.

The Samsung BD-UP5000 is the best combo HD disc player currently available.

Samsung BD-UP5000 Duo HD DVD and Blu-ray Player

As any good arbitrator might tell you, one of the best ways to resolve conflicts is to move from an “either/or” mindset to a “do both and more” approach, which is exactly what Samsung does with its BD-UP5000 Duo HD player—a unit that handles Blu-ray...

At $799, the BD-UP5000 isn’t that much more expensive than a pair of dedicated BD and HD DVD standalone players, and with the onboard HQV Reon processor, the player will breathe new life into your DVD collection as well. Samsung does have another Duo...

Samsung BD-UP5000 Duo HD Blu-ray / HD DVD HD Player

Months ago, when Samsung announced its BD-UP5000 dual format player, there appeared to be no end in sight to an ugly format war that threatened the future of high definition on a disc.

Samsung BD-UP5000

The Samsung BD-UP5000 is only the second HD multi-player to be announced but includes full support for both HD DVD and Blu-ray.

Early indications are that the player will cost around £600 in the UK and -- which should mean about AU$1500 here -- and it will be on sale in most parts of the world by Christmas. Local availability from Samsung is still unknown, but we believe it's...

The perfect do-it-all player! (with the latest firmare)

There were some audio problems prior to the latest firmware. Make sure you have version 1.3.

The Samsung BD-UP5000 is a wonderful player for HD-DVD, Blu-ray, and DVD! I've had zero problems with any discs.

Other users have reported that this player can't read BD-R/BD-RE burned discs. I haven't tried, but I still consider it a con. It does read burned DVDs with no problems though.

The perfect do-it-all player! (with the latest firmare)

There were some audio problems prior to the latest firmware. Make sure you have version 1.3. Some people have had problems reading certain discs (especially Fox Blu-rays). I've never had any such problem, but if you do, you can send the player in for...

The Samsung BD-UP5000 is a wonderful player for HD-DVD, Blu-ray, and DVD! I've had zero problems with any discs ; The video quality is excellent, supporting 1080p at 24Hz from HD-DVD and Blu-ray. SD sources can be upscaled to 1080p with the awesome HQV...

Unrepairable

If considering this unit be prepared that if it fails it probably cannot be repaired and they have no replacement units. This will make me return to Sony or Toshiba.

Excellent picture when functioning.

Very slow loading times. Video freezes and audio continues.

HD goodness

If you want a dual format player that can bitstream the newer HD audio formats this is the player you want. If you can find one.

Following firmware 1.3 update bitstreams Dolby ThrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio to my Onkyo 605. Dual format player so I can keep my HD DVDs while starting a BluRay collection. Capable of 1080p/24fps. Player setup menu looks like it is appropriate for...

I have noticed some disc menus are sluggish. Although I have not observed it because my TV is not capable of 24 fps playback, I have read there are some problems with this feature. Runs very hot. Production has been discontinued, so I hope firmware...
