Samsung DVD-HD960 review: Samsung DVD-HD960

Mostly solid image quality; upconverts to 720p, 1080i, and 1080p via HDMI; simple aspect ratio control; DivX compatibility; stylish design.

Some ghosting issues; no high-resolution audio support or media card slots.

While the stylish Samsung DVD-HD960 isn't perfect, it is one of the first players to offer 1080p upconversion, and its image quality will satisfy just about everybody.

SAMSUNG DVDHD960 Hi-Def Conversion DVD Player

I was a bit nervous about this player after reading some of the other reviews, but I have to say that I have experienced none of the problems the other reviewers mentioned. The player loads DVD's quickly and is effortless to setup and looks great right...

Great DVD Player. Very Sharp Image quality. Be sure to enable 1080p in the set up menu and turn progressive scan off if you're using the HDMI cable and on if your using the Components. Looks great on Samsung DLP Tv's. Handles my Dual Layer copies...

none so far. It looks every bit as good as my friend's PS3 with blue ray discs

Disappointed

I would not recommend this DVD Player to anybody who plays any sort of burned media. While the video quality is nice, (when it works), the control system is horrible and quite disappointing.

The physical DVD player looks nice. Comes with HDMI-cable

This is perhaps the most finicky DVD player I've ever owned when it comes to burned discs. It will try loading them for a minute sometimes, and then say that they are dirty and cannot be played. These discs work in any other DVD player I've ever used,...

Excellent Upconverter

Support for 1080p ensures it will look good even on the most high-end of displays.

I wasn't ready to make the transition to HDDVD or BluRay. They're both obscenely priced, I don't want to be an early adopter of a new technology or have anything to do with a format war, I own everything I could ever possibly want on DVD, and it's only...

A little pricey, but you get what you pay for I suppose. Older movies don't look quite as good, or in some cases look downright awful, but that's to be expected. An upconverter is only as good as its source material

Good Alternative to more expensive Blu Ray/HD Players

Just got this and it plays ordinary DVDs amazingly well on our new 56" Samsung 1080p DLP TV. At under $200 - and including the HDMI cable - it's a great bargain considering that there are only a couple hundred titles currently available for the $700 ...

Worth it to get the most out of your favorite videos on a new HDTV.

Unit may not be designed to stand up over time.

Samsung's Best UP-Converting Player To Date! ALMOST PERFECTION.

The Samsung DVD-HD960 is by every standard the best of a long line of Samsung UP conversion players. This style of player will work only with a HDTV and a DVI or HDMI port/ jack. If you lack those, it will function as a basic DVD player. If you have...

1080p, Ability to Fine Tune Your Picture, DCDi, Plays DivX. BEST UPconverting Player to date.

Remote on previous model was better, though not a real Negative.

Best Up-converting DVD for the money

This is the third upconverting DVD player I've owned. The first was an LG, and second was a Toshiba. I liked the LG, it was from Australia and could play NTSC/PAL and Divx, and was region free. It was built well, even had memory card readers, and ...

Amazing PQ! Good looks, pretty easy setup, what else is there to say?

Could be issues with DivX/Xvid files, this may make it 1 star less for you.
