Samsung DVD-R135 review: Samsung DVD-R135

Samsung DVD-R135

Relatively inexpensive; HDMI upscaling to 480p, 720p, and 1080i; flexible recording length; FireWire input; DivX support; solid disc compatibility; adjustable length commercial skip.

No support for recording on DVD-RAM or dual-layer discs; HDMI performance isn't as good as that of some stand-alone players.

The Samsung DVD-R135 is a relatively inexpensive and stylish DVD recorder with HDMI upscaling, but it's not quite as good as the competition.

A decent enough DVD recorder, but the lack of a digital tuner is a big letdown

HDMI cable included, easy to find recordings, wide range of supported formats

Analogue tuner

Samsung DVD-R135 review

A well-priced partner to your HD-ready TV

Affordable ; Very little MPEG noise

No digital tuner ; LP and EP modes best avoided

The price is attractive, but too many cost-cutting compromises have been made to recommend it

Disc compatibility was solid overall. It was able to playback all types of recorded DVDs, including DVD-RAM and DVDs with MP3s on them. This is in contrast to the disc compatibility problems we've continued to have on Panasonic recorders. If you have a...

Samsung DVD-R135 review

Set-top DVD recorders have gone from being an exciting innovation to being one step less boring than VCRs, and even the addition of upscaling technology can't save them. But although it may not inspire rampant gear lust, Samsung's DVD-R135, with its...

Samsung DVD-R135

The main claim to fame of this DVD-RW/DVD-R recorder is an HDMI output with video upscaling to 720p and 1080i, which makes it a great machine to go for if you already own an HD Ready TV

Affordable, Very little MPEG noise

No digital tuner, LP and EP modes best avoided

The price is attractive, but too many cost-cutting compromises have been made to recommend it

Unreliable

My experience with other Samsung products has been positive which makes this a surprise but I won't be replacing this DVD-R with one of the same brand.

Ease of operation, when it worked

First problem I had was it wouldn't play some movies so I had it repaired. Second was that it didn't recognize recordable DVDs so I had it repaired again. Now it freezes and jerks through many movies and I'm not under warranty anymore so I'm going to...

Terrible

We purchased this product to replace a similar one of another brand. This was a poor purchase. This product has been nothing but problems. First I purchsed it for the HDMI up convert however when I hooked it to my HDTV the video quality was inferior ...
