Kobo Aura H2O Edition 2 review

Kobo has refreshed its 2014 Aura H2O with a newer model of the same name. While there are hardly any improvements, it's still a great ebook reader -- and it's waterproof.

Durable, waterproof body ; Adjustable backlight and blue-light filter ; Intuitive, highly customizable software ; Can store 6,000 books

Pricey ; Middling performance

The Aura H2O is every bit as good as the original, but we would have liked to see better performance. It’s a great option for people who prefer large-screen ebook readers.

Kobo Aura H20 Edition 2 review: A waterproof e-reader worthy of your consideration

While not indestructible, this Kindle competitor can survive being submerged in water.

Waterproof (X8 IPX rating) ; Lightweight and easy to hold ; Crisp, easy-to-read text, with adjustable fonts and page gutters ; Nighttime backlight changes hue to reduce light in the blue spectrum

Interface reacts unpredictably when the touchscreen comes into contact with liquids ; Backlighting is less even than competing Amazon Kindle e-readers ; Some books in the Kobo Store cost more than they do in the Amazon store ; Does not support...

The Kobo Aura H20 Edition 2 is a waterproof and feature-packed e-reader that, provided they’ve not already amassed a large library of Amazon Kindle eBooks, that any book lover will enjoy—provided you don’t try to use it while it’s wet.

Kobo Aura Edition 2 review: It’s better than Amazon’s baseline Kindle, but it’s a lot more expensive

This e-reader just doesn't deliver enough bang for the buck.

Long battery life ; Good build quality ; Can display a wide variety of file types ; No ads

Relatively low resolution (but its 212 ppi is higher than the least-expensive Kindle's 167 ppi) ; Bright backlight, but one that can make text look blurry ; Similary priced competitors deliver more features and performance ; Too easy to accidentally...

Kobo Aura Edition 2 review: It’s better than Amazon’s baseline Kindle, but it’s a lot more expensive

The $130 Kobo Aura Edition 2 e-reader is an odd duck. It occupies the mid-point in the Kobo product line, and it boasts such desirable features as backlighting, long battery life, and the ability to open a diverse array of file types. But a number of...

Kobo AURA H2O Edition 2 review - waterproof ereader you can take anywhere

Kobo has released its latest ereader – the AURA H2O Edition 2 – which has a number of improvements so you can keep reading at any time of the day or night. And it's still waterproof so you can also read anywhere. The refreshed ereader has a 6.8-inch...

Eye-friendly screen, reduces blue light, waterproof, excellent battery, enough memory for all off your books.

Keyboard has a slight lag, a little expensive.

Kobo has thought of everything with the AURA H2O Edition 2 so readers can enjoy what they love doing anywhere and anytime without compromise. Kobo has thought of everything with the AURA H2O Edition 2 so readers can enjoy what they love doing anywhere...

KOBO Aura 2 6" eReader - 4 GB, Black

Light and small to carry around. Different fonts and size helps if your eyesight is impaired

Can not enlarge any photos that are included in the books

KOBO Aura Edition 2 eReader

It is lightweight

My old Sony reader had a page turn button which I found easier to use than to swipe page. The Kobo does not have this. (I don't use a tablet and I seem to have a heavy finger for touch screen)

KOBO Aura H2O 2nd Edition eReader - Black

Great ereaders, my 4th. Generally better than Kindle with more functionality although without the games I'm now not so sure.

New range (like this one) hasn't got the 'Beta features' i.e. all the extra games which made Kobo extra special. Games are a nice break from reading.
