Sony PlayStation 2, Redesigned

The slim, redesigned PlayStation 2 is the way to go if you're buying a new unit, but there is no real reason to upgrade from the original.

Slim unit, built-in network card/modem, fully compatible with original PlayStation 2.

Xbox has better graphics; new PS2 has only two controller ports versus four on GC and Xbox; no hard drive, FireWire; large external power supply.

Sony PlayStation 2 Online Adaptor review: Sony PlayStation 2 Online Adaptor

Sony PlayStation 2 Online Adaptor

Fairly simple installation and setup; supports dial-up and broadband access; several compatible titles already available.

Separate online account setup for each game; no integrated Xbox-like universal voice support.

Sony's network adaptor opens the PS2 to online competition, but it's a bit less polished than the Xbox's online solution.

Sony Playstation 2 review

We'd advise 360 and Wii owners not to forget about Play - there's some truly superb games still coming out for PS2

No sane gamer is going to head out and buy this as their new console, but we’d advise 360 and Wii owners not to forget about Dre – there’s some truly superb games still coming out for PS2

Sony Playstation 2 Slim review

An old favourite gets a slimline revamp, and with a gargantuan catalogue of stonking games, who are we to dismiss it?

Sony PlayStation 2 (slim form factor)

Sony's revamped PS2 is slimmed down and online-friendly, but the price is still a little too fat.

Huge library of games; svelte design; built-in networking/modem ports and remote sensor; doubles as a CD/DVD player; free online gaming with select titles.

Top-loading disc tray; only two controller ports; no hard disk expansion option; Xbox's graphics capabilities are superior.

Sony's slimmed-down, network-ready PS2 is a welcome update to the world's most popular video game console.

Playstation 2

The updated PS 2 is gorgeous - Sony gave it an extreme makeover, including ethernet implant and liposuction. Sexy it might be but, considering Xbox 2 is just around the corner and you probably already own a PS2, is it really worth the upgrade?

Epic Console

Sad to say the PS3 doesn't look like it's going to have the success as the PS2 did. I love my PS3, but I admit my 360 gets more play time. Sony made a really bad choice dropping PS2 compatibility, IMO. Luckily I got the last 80GB model that does...

This console is the epitome of a great gaming. I've had my PS2 since launch and went through 3 of them. It has some many great games that there's no way you could play them all unless you have absolutely no life whatsoever. I'm not sure why the specs...

As I stated in the Pros, I went through 3 PS2s, but that was before they redesigned it to the slim, I'm sure these will be a bit more reliable since there's less heat and a better optical drive.
