Consumer review (newegg.com)

Worth it, but not overly impressive.

I got an unusually low price on this, so really I got decent bang-for-buck. It's pretty reliable and accurate when you know the address. I would recommend it.

This thing is pretty reliable, and reasonably accurate. The suction cup mount is a lot more reliable than my previous model.

Voice command/recognition is almost worthless for anything other than saved places. When it gets very hot, the audio cuts out until it cools down. This happens maybe once or twice a month during the summer. It could never compete with models that are...

Garbage

Free Maps for Life

Removable battery that NO ONE CARRIES. We used this on trips (4 since we bought it) Battery is now dead, its a user replaceable part but the battery is not sold by anyone. Don't buy this Junk

Not Good

-Went back to old NUVI 50 LMT unit

-Small and had a lot of features such as route indicator for NYC and CT traffic jams.

-Unit was rebuilt however, routes became incorrect and added time until the unit would not operate. -I would prefer a replacement however the service provided a New Egg gift receipt for the unit less tax and shipping.

great for what it is.

Replaced an older Garmin in a car where the user only connects it for longer trips. If you plan to use it everyday think about stepping up to a better unit.

Price, and it no longer says RECALCULATING. Still easier to have a standalone GPS than a smart phone, especially at this price.

By no means top of the line, be aware of that.

Good value for the money

Easy to use, responsive to touch, lots of options, lots of extras. Accurate navigation. Easy to update and sync with computer.

Lacks voice control not really a con for this price point. Screen is a bit mat finished but clear.

Really good device

I borrowed an identical unit on a trip to Canada before I purchase and was the reason I got this as I loved the borrowed one. Found all my address (hotel, zoo, tourist areas, etc), perfect routing. Used the POI since my cell phone did not work in...

Simple, fast to find satellite, easy to navigate menu, good POI, fast re-calculation, free map updates and traffic.

Re routs when you chose to after traffic delays are display are not the best.

Easy to use

Great buy

Fast update, screen is a nice size, & best of all easy to use!

Call it a best buy!

My old (very old) Garmin finally plotted its last course and went to GPS heaven. I did my homework and found the 3490 was highly recommended, saw the lifetime updates included in the purchase price, and bought it. When it was delivered, I plugged it...

Couldn't be more simple to operate. The basic functions of entering a destination have been semi-automated to an amazing degree. The improvement in graphics was a knock-out; as was the improved keyboard.

Poor TTS voice quality and a pain to update

Relatively inexpensive since it's a refurb.

1) Maps are a PAIN to update. First, the internal storage is full out-of-the-box, so the updater won't let you install new maps. You are immediately out $6-$10 because you'll need to buy a microSD card to supply extra storage space. Second, even after...

Useless! Get something else or use a phone

The touchscreen works well

And you're gonna need it, because it doesn't have voice recognition for spoken destinations. I knew about that, but thought that it wouldn't be that much of problem, until I found myself having to pull over somewhere to type in a new destination. Get...
