Garmin Approach G5

The Approach G5 can help you navigate the links and improve your game, but it'll cost you.

Easy to use. Ruggedized, waterproof case. Touch screen. Preloaded with about 8,800 courses. Screen viewable in bright sunlight. Electronic score card.

Expensive. No battery meter. No rechargeable batteries.

Garmin Approach G5 review

The Garmin Approach G5 is the first golf GPS created by Garmin in-house (as opposed to the GolfLogix unit, which is built on the eTrex platform with software developed by another company). The Approach G5 is built on the new Garmin Oregon touch-screen...

Anybody who plays golf will know that, while there is no better sound on this planet than the "schnick" of a clean, straight stroke, more often than not,

Very pleased with this GPS, I clip it on my belt where there is no interference with my swing and never need to guess my distances or search for markers any more.

Turn it on. push play and it takes you to the nearest course geographically from where you are

The screen could be brighter under trees or in shady areas

I love this gps! So far it's performed great for me at several of my home courss in SW lower Michigan.

Minimal Setup, lots of courses preloaded, large color touch screen, no monthly or yearly fees

No accessories included (e.g. belt clip, case, etc.)

I think I'd save my money if I had to do it over. There are enough clues for me to approximate the distance to the green. The 5 to 10 yards I'd be off is no worse than the G5.If your out of town, the course your playing may not be in the unit.

It is neat to know how far away you are from the green

There are a lot a golf courses that are not loaded into the unit. If you have big hands good luck which the touch screen

Garmin Approach G5 Handheld GPS Navigator

Overall I think this is a great piece of equipment. I've only used it once but feel as if I'll like it even more as I grow accustomed to it.

No annual or downloading fees. Yardages are accurate and fast. Machine always at the ready. Whole hole look is very helpful

Touch screen is a little balky
