Garmin GPS 60

Functional but expensive

MapSource software, external antenna port, USB connection

City-point mapping is no substitute for graphical base map, slow signal acquisition, cluttered with irrelevant software

Although the GPS 60 looks like it means business, it doesn’t live up to expectations. A USB connection and Garmin’s MapSource software are small consolation for the lack of mapping and slow signal acquisition. There are better — and cheaper — handheld...

GPS unit itself

This unit has more fitures than my old Garmim GPS. But there is a whole lot more instructions to read and functions needed to handle, all this just to get started. I am reading the manual again for the third time and only part way thru getting the GPS...

Garmin GPS 60

Have here at home. The Garmin maps were right on the money (abet at 1:100K scale). I will note though, they don't provide much detail but they suffice for my needs. Another thing that sold me on the Garmin maps (and hence this unit) is that many (not...

Durable and weather resistant, great/bright display, accurate topo maps, easy to use and understand

Not compatable with Mac's (bummer), some the topo maps roads are also quite dated

My experience

I was able to pick this unit up at REI when they were selling it for $299 rather than the 449 it used to sell for. When they brought out the new Garmin 60 CSX they dropped the price to the one I paid. It may be possible to still find them even lower. I...

Good and low priced

Its a good basic GPS, the low price makes it very attractive, possible to get smaller GPS but you have to pay for that.
