Magellan eXplorist XL

Not everyone wants to sit in the relative safety of his or her car to get from A to B and luckily there?s a GPS navigator to suit the adventurous type. The Magellan eXplorist XL is a solidly made and reliable handheld GPS receiver with touches that...

There's an internal 30MB memory for storing maps and this can be expanded through SD cards. With a clear 3.5in LCD screen there's plenty of room for detail and route information to be displayed

Nice receiver

I bought a 2GB SD card and the Mapsend Topo 3D software. I have the whole USA loaded onto the card (you have to split the maps into several due to a file size limitation)

Larger screen than typical, excellent reception and keeps signal under thick foliage and in many buildings

The size is a little bulky and i recommend the 500 or 600 or Garmin 60csx for hiking. Basemap only has major highways and POI's on it. Magellan customaer support isn't anywhere near as good as Garmin from several sources

The altitude can be taken from the GPS

Essentially non functional as a serious navigation tool, lots of gimics like Points of Interest including grave sites the nearest being a thousand kilometers away and then unnamed, the use being?
