Magellan Maestro 4000 review

The Magellan Maestro 4000 is part of Magellan's newest GPS lineup — the Maestro series. Like the other members of the Maestro series, the 4000 has a 4.3" wide-screen display, voice-prompted directions, AAA travel information and a SiRFstarIII chipset....

Excellent starter GPS for the price

Overall, for the newegg price (I paid $120 + $20 rebate), I would definitely recommend this GPS if you are looking for something inexpensive. Two other things I would have liked: + the ability to personally update the included POI list. + the ability...

Pretty good basic GPS - inexpensive, but lacking some of the fancier bells and whistles of more expensive models ; Generally fairly quick at locating position - the longest I've had it take is about 40 seconds. Can't see this as being too much of an...

Navigation could be a little better. I had it give me directions to my parents' house (about 3.5 hours away). It calculated the shortest distance correctly. Though when I selected the "Fastest Route" option, it gave me a very convoluted route which was...

I like it

Don't let the old maps scare you. Mine works fine and MOST roads are correct, at least here in my area.

Works good, looks like new. Comes will all the original accessories

Maps are from 2006. You can buy the 2008-2009 maps from Magellan on a 2GB SD card for 75 bucks

Easy to use, gets me there!

Make sure you have the newest firmware and maps. A GPS navigation unit is worthless without the correct maps and routing software. Magellan and Garmin use NAVTEQ maps. If you are having map problems NAVTEQ maps, try Tom Tom they use Tele Atlas maps...

Has the easiest to use and nicest looking interface of all the GPS navigation units I have used, and I have used a lot of them. They keep the interface very clean and simple. The navigation view is great. I love the split screen turn diagrams, best out...

You can't enter in geographic coordinate to navigate to. Trip planer and road avoiding is a bit weird to use. Limited POI's database when compared to other units. AAA data base can only be updated by AAA members. I just got my unit in 2Q 2008 but it...

Nice, But Watch Those Curves

I have two Magellans and they both announce ahead of time "turn right" on some curves. But, all in all, it's a nice GPS. I haven't yet tried their website for any goodies.

Love the wide screen. Locks on Sats quick. Nice mounting bracket. Usually accurate

Sometimes, when approaching a curve, it will tell you to "Turn Right", especially curves to the right. Can be confusing. Obvious software problem

Great Referb

Do not obstruct the top of the unit. It must have a decent view of the sky for the satellite's signal to reach it. Once it learns where it is there is not a problem. Thank you again NEWEGG.

PRICE-REPUTATION-PRICE-NEWEGG-PRICE! My second Maestro, and both work great. GPS looks brand newand came the the latest software update. I have compared this unit to higher end $$$ units like Lorance GPS and it may not be quite as flashy but it gets...

Give it a little time to learn where it is and you will not be displeased. It does not serve coffe or warm donuts, darnn, well maybe the next model

Not bad at all.

I've already recommended this GPS to several friends.

Good sized screen, audible directions, lots of points of interest. One nice feature is it will show two different views of an intersection as you're approaching it, even showing multiple turns if they're very close to each other. Easy to navigate...

Some points of interest can be found only through a specific search (like looking for hotels in a certain area) and not as easily through entering an address

We just love this GPS. It was wonderful going to a new city and not having to follow the maps we have used in the past. It was very easy to use, easy to read screen and we never worried about getting lost it was so accurate. I love you Newegg, and have...

Recertified: MAGELLAN Maestro 4000 4.3" Automotive GPS Receiver

SD card is needed to do the software upgrade from Magellens website. If you have a SD card from another device it is needed just to do the upgrade and then you can remove it.

Great product for the price. Everything that would come with a brand new unit was in the box of the refurb. as well. Easy to operate. Refurbs are a great way to go to save money.

Came with 2006 maps. Still waiting on updated maps to become available for purchase.
