Magellan RoadMate 1412 - North America

If you're on a budget and looking for a full-featured North American GPS, give the Magellan 1412 a try. It has a large screen for its small size, and has most of the features you'll need for travel in North America. It's one of the most reasonably...

Magellan RoadMate 1412 review

The Magellan RoadMate 1412 is one of Magellan's most popular GPS navigators. The 1412 has a 4.3″ color touch screen, pre-loaded maps of the entire U.S. and Canada, and 6 million points of interest (POIs). It also features text-to-speech, so you'll hear...

It does the job.

Wish it would tell me I missed a turn. On the plus side, it recalculates the route quickly. My other GPS tells me "off route!!". Then it recaculates.

Clear easy to hear speech. Has more options than I'll ever use

Maps are dated. It is a common problem with all GPS units. Was told to make a left turn on a road that has been modified 3 years ago, so that is not possible. My other GPS tells me the same thing

Don't buy refurb

I would definitely buy this unit new. The refurbished unit is a total waste of time and money.

Excellent GPS unit. Small size, big readable display. The voice is loud enough for old fossils like me to hear it. Routing and zoom features are very fast, faster than a laptop GPS program

The refurbished unit has a bad battery. Having to plug it in is very inconvenient. Magellan isn't interested in honoring the warranty

Excellent GPS

Bought refurb before Christmas for less than a hundred bucks. This thing rocks! My wife is not into tech, but it only took my a couple of minutes to show her how to enter adresses, & now she uses it all the time. I am planning to buy another for myself.

Large screen, speaks street names, good user interface, good navigation, easy to see, clear voice instuctions, easy to update firmware

no mini-USB cable included

very nice unit

First gps was the magellan 2000 roadmate purchased here, recertified. Needed a map update after using it for a year, decided to purchase a new unit instead. Garmin nuvi 205 just didnt hack it, very poor interface, replaced it with this unit, and am...

magellan has the best software imo. easy to use interface, intuitive. accurate, streamlined address entry. Retains previous city for new searches within that city, which expedites searches a lot

Recertified units typically have outdated maps and firmware, which need to be upgraded. 85.00 for map updates

DOA no satellites picked up

Unit does not come with a USB cable even though firmware update software tells you to use the "cable that came with the unit". Firmware update took a couple tries to detect the unit. The update process is not as slick as Garmin's WebUpdater.

Good features for the price, seems solid

Tried everything to get it to pick up satellites, it can't see any at all even after leaving it in open air on 2-3 tries for about 15-20 minutes. Updated firmware to latest. Tried resetting unit. Manually entered location to GPS Settings page, still...
