Magellan RoadMate 1440

The Magellan RoadMate 1440 is one of several models introduced by the company in the spring of 2009. This 4.3” touch-screen navigator offers Magellan's OneTouch interface, AAA TourBook, Highway Lane Assist, exit POIs and multi-destination routing.

almost ok

NOT colorblind friendly!!! 20% (one out of five) men have some form of red/green colorblindness. if color blind it's too hard to see sometimes the route. ...The address book only holds... get this... 9 entries. NINE. That's right! There are times...

the only reason this GPS gets two stars is because as much as bad as it is, there are others that are much worse ; pros: better predictive entry of names than most GPSs ; recalculates quickly ; routes accurately ; doesn't get lost ; good strong signal...

takes 30 seconds to boot up ; doesn't tell you where you are going, so when you tell it to go somewhere, you have no way of confirming if it took and is going to the right place ; hard to zoom out and get a view of the overall route ; when a street...

Works Fine So Far

Use it but do not trust it or any GPS to be accurate 100% of the time. The maps sometimes fall short on accuracy. However, this could be said for any GPS manufacture so I won't knock it too hard. If you miss a turn don't panic. Keep driving and reduce...

Cheap for a GPS that speaks street names ; Better display screen than some costing 2X as much ; Good, clear voice. No trouble hearing it under normal conditions

Maps! They are not entirely accurate. Enter an address and the unit will may take you to within a few feet of your destination or say you have arrived when your are still a half mile away. This is a problem with the maps and not the hardware. Manually...

Great GPS - Great crystal large screen

I have used many GPS before, this is by far the BEST I owned. Its super fast, great signal, fast re-routes, easy to enter address, routes are always spot-on. Very very handy and useful.

OK for the price.

Cons-No Speed Warning Cannot download directly from Mapquest or Google Cannot save a route after using the turn avoidance feature. Does not repeat the street name at the actual turn but just chimes. Other than that good for the price. Would...

Worth the Price

I purchased the 1440 unit last week for a trip to San Diego. I am generally pleased with its performance. Consumer Reports gave it a 68 'very good' out of 73 rating and Costco had it on sale that week. The cost ($79) more than made up for the $10/day...

Great for when you're out of your familiar environment, or misrouted by detour signs, and must find your way back. Also downloaded software upgrade 2.2, free online, and was pleasantly surpirse of the AAA database. Fantastic database of places,...

Not too crazy with this unit

I am a Realtor and 100% rely on GPS. Purchased RoadMate 1440 and soon started hating lift. First, the unit takes awfully a long time to boot. My 386 used to be much faster 20 years ago. Second, when typing in the Zip Code or the City, which I use the...
