Magellan Triton 1500 review

The Magellan Triton 1500 is one of a new series of handheld GPS receivers from Magellan that can display USGS topo maps (raster imagery) from National Geographic. I've had the unit for over six weeks now and have put it through its paces.

What a waste of money

Magellan, need serious software redesign. They need to get it right, if not they will loose a large following.

Every thing is great about this unit (Camera, nice touch display, nice screen, cool unit, etc...), Alas only on paper and and if it worked/works

Nothing works fine on this unit. The buttons are clumsy, press multiple times to get them to do something, the touch response is very slow, and the software is horrible ; Nothings seems to work as described, the system locks, hangs, and simply dies...

Waste of materials and $$$

Makes Ferdinand wish he had never left Portugal.

After 7 months of trying to use this thing, I have found nothing good to say about it. The only perk was the NG software that I had to buy to try to use this piece was ok. Little pricey. But I have used the NG software are few times to print maps and...

In a nutshell, the unit is overpriced with bad software and is overall useless. The biggest con is Magellan. Why would they waste the time and effort to put out such a terrible product. Throw it out and us a compass.

Bottom line: Unless you have a masochistic need to spend money on things that will make you waste hour after hour of your precious and limited time on this wonderful world you would rather be hiking and exploring, don't buy this product.

If this was about $250 cheaper it would be a good basic hand held GPS for giving your coordinates, velocity and heading.

The advanced functionality for which I bought this was completely dysfunctional:

Missing Parts & Software Errors

I have sent this product back. It is not worth the money with all of the software and firmware bugs in it, especially after only 1 day's worth of use.

Used the item for a few hours to go geocaching by manually typing in the coordinates. Tried adding a recording to a waypoint, but the program would error out. The VantagePoint software that comes with it also was very buggy and kept crashing on me when...
