Small, wide range of GPS features, ability to import user-defined points of interest

Slow satellite acquisition time, no red light/speed camera alerts

A solid and portable GPS navigator.

Navman iCN 520

The Navman iCN 520 scores higly for ease of use and the power of its features, but falls down on getting an initial GPS fix on your location.

Detailed maps ; Easy to carry or install ; Touchscreen or button interface ; Good for use outside the car

Poor initial GPS fix ; Some map data is out of date ; Touchscreen interface is tricky in some places

In-car GPS is perhaps the most obvious use of a GPS in the Australian context, but the iCN520 scores additional points from us as it is actually light and portable enough to be used as a handheld GPS if you're interested in such things as geocaching;...

good/bad & the ugly

Navman support is atrocious. You can never talk to a human, and email support is very uninterested in your problem. Their solution is always for you to buy some add-on to make it work properly. Maybe not as bad as Magellan support, but bad!

good size screen, accurate maps and very good directions

Screen hard to see in daylight and impossible with polaroid sunglasses, which makes voice direction important and the real negative. You can't hear the voice instructions in moving vehicle (unless you have a new Lexus or some such!). NAvman suggests...

Thumbs Up!

Took this on a vacation last week, and it worked like a charm. Once you have the initial GPS fix (again, usually takes a good couple minutes in clear sky), it was good to go. After going through a tunnel, the acquistion of a signal took only about 7...

What really lead me to this product was it's price, and I was also impressed by it's size. Compared to other products in the same line, this item is reasonably priced, and the size is compact (About the size of a PDA), which makes it easier to store in...

The only issue that I have with this unit is the initial GPS fix time. It takes a good couple minutes to get a fix, and yes you have to have a clear line of sight to the sky (no trees, garage, etc) to get the fix

NAVMAN iCN 520 3.5" Mobile GPS Navigator with integral GPS receiver

Nicely thought out design ; Compact and light ; Easy install ; Quick off-route re-calculate time

Software has alot to be desired ; Voice guidance does a great job at annoying than guiding ; Night dimming isn't dim enough causing major distraction from reflection of screen on windshield at night ; Does not have Night Mode where background is...

Navman iCN 520

I have found this unit to be ok in some situations.. but in the middle of a city (eg. Sydney) it loses contact with the satellite relatively often, and by the time it recalculates, you can have missed several other turns. Also, it has given us...

Good visual directions and clear voice, great screen

Average trip planning algorithm, cant keep a strong satellite connection in the city, could have a louder maximum volume
