The GO 5100 is ourfirst glimpse of the latest mild update to theTomTom GO redesign of about two years ago, and replaces theGO 5000. As the relatively small change in model name implies, this isn't a huge design upheaval. But this model introduces...

The TomTom GO 5100 takes over from its predecessor as the top premium 5-inch sat-nav option.

The TomTom Go 5100 is a 5-inch sat nav that comes with traffic services built in, helping you avoid those annoying roadworks on a Monday morning. It's quite a pricey prospect, but with lifetime maps and European mapping out of the box, is this sat nav...

Very good quality feel. Built-in sim card means constant real-time traffic in an easy to read form on the screen, constantly updated. Importantly, free lifetime map updates through your PC. Easy to set up and change settings
Somewhat pricey, but good build quality. It would help to be able to enlarge, and keep enlarged, on-screen traffic problems - or maybe I'm missing how to do this.

Had Tom Toms since they first came out. They just get better and better.
Voice command a little unresponsive.

Being able to plan a journey on your mobile sat at home or at work on a computer, sending the journey to the device so you don't have to write down the address and enter whilst sat in your car, makes it quicker and easier. Went for the in built sim...
I bought this to get lifetime traffic as the yearly fee was too expensive. The info for weather at the destination is missed but not a deal breaker. Showing petrol stations is good but would be better to show what company, Shell, esso etc.

Tom Tom has always been my preferred sat nav. Ease of use and accurate, like all sat nav does not always take best route but gets you there.
No bad points

Saved me loads of time on long and short runs (white van man). Great at dodging traffic
It advertises it alerts for mobile speed cameras. It does not. It only relies on community users to update units where cameras ate. Also new speed limit areas where 30 has dropped to 20 etc do not get changed on the sat nav. Maps are supposed to be...

Love the large display. Like the traffic delay which is nearly spot on at all times.
Takes time for start up.
