Bang & Olufsen Beoplay HX review: Classy sound in style

Spending money on a Bang & Olufsen product usually requires at least a little justification. Not so much in the case of the Beoplay HX over-ear headphones, though

Opulent-yet-tasteful design and finish ; Engaging, energetic sound ; Great control options

High price compared to alternatives ; Noise-cancellation can be bettered for less

It’s almost possible to visualise Bang & Olufsen congratulating itself on being so pragmatic and sensible with the Beoplay HX. And that’s fair enough: by reining in their design-led instincts just a little, the company has turned out a deeply...

Review: Bang & Olufsen Beoplay HX | Middle Class Without Advantages Bang & Olufsen Beoplay HX

Bang & Olufsen has made a new pair of ANC headphones for the majority who want something cheaper than the H95.

Good wearing comfort, nice design. Adaptive noise reduction. Touch operation.

The noise reduction is too wind sensitive and it affects the sound quite a lot.

Beoplay HX is intended as a new alternative in the premium class for noise-reducing headphones. It is light and comfortable, and incarnating Bang and Olufsen fans should have it on their checklist. However, there are quite a few on the leg in the price...

Bang & Olufsen Beoplay HX review: luxurious noise-cancelling headphones

The Bang & Olufsen Beoplay HX sound just as good as they look

35+ hours of music ; Excellent sound quality ; Manual sound settings

ANC isn't best-in-class ; Very, very expensive

If you're willing to splash out on your next pair of wireless headphones, then the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay HX are worth a look. Featuring B&O's telltale design language, they look just as good as they sound, and the easy-to-use smartphone app gives you...

Bang & Olufsen Beoplay HX headphones review: Prestigious yet pricey

High-quality materials from a prestige brand give the HX appeal, but the high price and subtle noise-cancelling will leave question marks for some.

Quality look and feel - as is typical from B&O ; Virbant sound - in particular the sparkly top-end ; Well appointed app with customisation

Extremely expensive ; Active noise-cancelling (ANC) is very subtle ; Lacks driving bass ; Competition is stronger

What you're paying for here is the quality of materials and admirable sound quality (once you've tinkered with the app anyway). Compared to the competition, however, the active noise-cancelling (ANC) is very subtle, so these over-ears won't universally...
