Etymotic ER-6

Noise-isolating earbuds with awesome clarity and detail; includes multiple eartips and travel pouch.

Thin, tangle-prone wires; somewhat expensive.

Etymotic's ER-6 earbuds offer stellar sound quality.

Etymotic ER-6

These lightweight ear-canal headphones provide clean, clear, slightly bass-heavy sound; flanged eartips reduce external sound.

These lightweight ear-canal headphones provide clean, clear, slightly bass-heavy sound; flanged eartips reduce external sound. The ER-6s are well suited for use with a player only, and we heard improvement when adding an amp. We did find them difficult...

Etymotic ER-6 Isolator

The relentless snare drum crack on “Jack of Speed” was enough to make some of the lesser earbuds beg for mercy, but the Etymotic ER-6 Isolators delivered it nearly perfectly. More importantly, they served up Beck's bass with equal authority.

Great sound; even better noise isolation

Limited fit options

Etymotic was also the only manufacturer that didn’t provide a cleaning tool with its product; a replaceable filter is included, instead. When the filter becomes sufficiently clogged with ear gunk—double eew!—to impact the earphone’s performance, you...

Best-value earphones

If you don't mind earphones that sit deep in your ear canals, reviews say the Etymotic ER-6i are an excellent choice and less expensive than similar earphones, such as the Etymotic ER-4P (*Est. $190) and Shure SE535 (*Est. $500). Though the ER-6i...

Superb sound quality, good noise isolation, value

Thin cord that tangles easily, tricky to fit properly, bass response depends on proper fit

Etymotic Research ER-6 Earphones

It's a topic I don't talk much about these days, but somewhere in the deep, dark recesses of my past I had a studio and a minor recording

Nice, small, convenient ; Nice carrying case and accessories ; Good audio response - shuts outside noise out well ; Good earbud tip selection - with more options available

Bass response not as strong as I wanted (ER-6i model with better bass response available for $10 more) ; Earbuds grow uncomfortable during prolonged use (not particular to these earphones) ; Pricey

Overall, I liked the earphones, but I'm not getting rid of my Sony Studio headphones anytime soon. I find any earbud style earphone grows uncomfortable the longer I wear them - these were no exception. My limit was about a half hour. I found I had to...

Etymotic ER-6i

For sound the ER-6is are plenty loud enough and high-end frequencies are extremely clean and bright. On first listen the bass was as non-existent as All Saints' comeback album sales, but pop in the correct sized earbuds and the sound is transformed -...

Excellent sound quality, well fitting, good noise isloation

Flimsy cable

Etymotic Research ER-6 Isolator Earphone Review

Etymotic’s ER-6 Isolator Earphones are the best earphones I’ve ever used in terms of comfort, fit and sound quality.

Consumer review (cnet.com)

"Excellent value for the money; Good noise cancellation."

Clear, even sound; good comfort; good noise cancellation.

Can be a bit tricky to get properly positioned in the ear; the cable isn't the most durable.
