Harman Kardon NC headphones: A noise-canceling model that doesn't sound like one

HK's $300 noise-canceling model gives the Bose QuietComfort 15 a run for its money.

Unique design; excellent fit and finish; impressive sound quality for a noise-canceling headphones; built-in rechargeable battery to power the noise cancellation; fold flat (a nice carrying case is included); work without the noise cancellation on...

Fairly pricey; the inline remote and microphone won't work with many non-Apple smartphones and tablets; the battery charging cable is not a standard Micro-USB cable.

While they may not be quite as comfortable as Bose's ultrapopular QC 15 headphones, the Harman Kardon NCs offer slightly better sound and have a built-in rechargeable battery to power the active noise-cancellation circuitry.

Harman Kardon NC noise-canceling headphones review

Last year I reviewed the Harman Kardon Classic (CL), an on-ear headphone model that has a very distinct design, with a modern take on an old-school double headband and square earcups that harken back a little to the Bowers & Wilkins P3 and P5...

Review: Harman Audio AKG K495 NC

If you demand near-absolute silence from your noise-canceling headphones, these are the ones for you. The AKG K495 NCs get closer to dead silence than...

Handsome design. Strong noise canceling with only a dribble of audio artifacts. Two lengths of detachable braided cable, one with an in-line remote. Fantastic sound in passive mode, too

On-ear design leads to fatigue after a couple of hours, and plastic parts inside the earcups can dig into your ears. Metal headband is sharp and snaggy. They don’t stay on your head as well as over-the-ears

AKG K495 NC Acoustics (Black) review

For 2012 AKG has two new pairs of stylish noise-canceling headphones, the $349.95 K495 NC and $249.95 K490 NC .

The AKG K495 NCs are stylish, well-built headphones with excellent fit and finish. They sound good, offer effective noise cancellation, and are rechargeable via USB. They also fold flat and come with a nice carrying case and can play without the noise...

At $350, they're pricey--and should sound even more refined; a little light on the bass.

The AKG K495 NCs aren't as comfortable and don't sound quite as good as the Bose QC 15s, but they're built better, offer very good noise-cancellation, and recharge via USB.

Harman/Kardon NC Noise-Cancelling Premium HEADPHONES

The Harman/Kardon NC are well-crafted, well-rounded headphones that sound great, deliver decent noise isolation in noisy environments and are comfortable enough to have on the head for hours. They will not disappoint, even though they struggle a little...

Above average audio reproduction. ; Sturdy metal build. ; Very comfortable design.

Sub-par treble reproduction. ; Large ear cups susceptible to damage.

Harman-Kardon NC

Harman Kardon joins the noise-cancelling fray

Good detail ; Bass not overbearing ; Lovely styling

Sounds a bit lean ; Noise-cancelling could be better

Harman Kardon NC headphones: sound quality We have mixed feelings about their sound. On one hand, they’re more explicit with detail than the QuietComfort 15s and don’t over-egg their bass, but with that comes a slight brittleness to the treble and a...
