Jabra M5390

One headset for your desk phone, mobile phone and softphone.

Multiuse for desk phones, mobile phones and softphones; up to 70 metres wireless range; reasonable audio quality

Pricey; no handset-lifter included; incoming audio could be louder; background noise can affect calls

Jabra M5390 USB

Jabra's business-centric Bluetooth headset might be pitched at the boardroom, but it made us feel like we were stuck in a call centre.

Variety of connection methods ; Headset all but impossible to lose ; Good voice quality

Lacks handset lifting capability ; Headset is huge

We ultimately couldn't shake the suspicion that the M5390 might think of itself as a premium executive headset, but it can't help but look like a call centre model. Within an office environment it can work very well indeed, but we can't see too many...

Jabra M5390 USB Headset

Talk-time is decent at 6 hours and standby is a massive 60 hours, with charge time being just 2 hours – very useful when you're in a hurry. Weight is 15g, making this a genuine lightweight headset.

Jabra’s M5390 achieves its goal of providing a headset for use across multiple devices, but the lack of an included handset-lifter is a downside, especially considering the hefty asking price.

Works with Linux Ubuntu 11.10 out-of-the-box!

I found out how to mute/unmute the Jabra microphone on the command line in Linux (need to have Pulse Audio command line interface installed): pacmd list-sources #to figure out the source id number for 'Jabra A335w OC Analog Mono' pacmd...

Out of the box, I was able to plug in the included USB dongle, pair it with the headset and start using it under Ubuntu Linux 11.10 ; Works well with Skype on Linux. also works fine with Audacity, Movie Player, and Banshee on Linux ; Good Range: I can...

By connecting up with the included A335W USB dongle, I was not able to get the mute button on the headset to function under Ubuntu Linux. It is frustrating to have to go into the control panel to mute and unmute the headset. (minus two stars on this...
