Samsung HT-X70 review: Samsung HT-X70

Samsung HT-X70

Home theater in a box with integrated AV receiver/five-disc DVD changer; HDMI output with upscaling to up to 1080i; single HDMI input to connect a high-def source; stylish design with small speakers; XM-ready.

Sounds better with movies than with music; no automatic speaker calibration; can't browse iPod with onscreen menus; no analog video inputs

The Samsung HT-X70 is stylish and has a great feature set for the price, but it sounds better on movies than with music.

Great Choice For Average Home User

This isn't the unit for the person that's spent tens of thousands or more building a home theater. It is a great choice however for the average home user, looking to improve upon a current sound source that's built into the TV/Tuner. Adding this to our...

Performs as advertised. It upscales nicely, changes discs quickly enough and produces rich sound that will more than fill the average users home impressively

No cons as I knew what to expect before purchasing and wasn't disappointed by any unexpected surprises. READ EVERYTHING you can find and if possible, try out any product before purchasing!!! That usually helps more than anything in avoiding disappointment

Good Simple System

I don't own an Ipod so I haven't been able to test if it works with one, though the box claims to support them. Sounds is excellent with this system, it is a good option for anyone looking for an easy-to-use home theatre system.

System sounds excellent. No distortion. Speakers will automatically adjust for surround sound and back depending on what you're watching. Upscaling on the DVD player is great. HDMI in and out ports. Wires included are plenty long. Wireless support

The unit itself is very long, it may not fit in some entertainment centers

Consumer review (newegg.com)

Decent, but a bit expensive on Newegg.

Buy it at a local electronics store - I got mine for much less than $300.

Upconversion is pretty good, 5 disc changer, decent sound, can play files from a USB drive. Supports HDMI and audio input for some surround sound from the TV. Also supports optical. Cables included were long and were color-coded so I don't need to run...

DVD's take a bit longer to read but not a big deal. However, IT DOES NOT SUPPORT IPODS AND MOST OTHER MP3 PLAYERS! My system came with an iPod cable but what's the use? I only get a USB ERROR when I plug in my iPod. Speakers also easily tilt over but...
