Review Acer Aspire 1551 Subnotebook

Not a netbook! With the Aspire 1551, Asus brings a new 11.6-inch

Design and good craftsmanship; Application performance of the AMD-hardware; DDR3-RAM; HD-display (11.6-inch); Generous FineTip keyboard; Maintenance panel on underside

Small touch pad; Meager accessories included; Poor display values; Short battery life; High temperature values

Current notebooks or sub-notebooks with an 11.6-inch display and AMD insides. Among others, the ASUS Eee PC 1201T with an MV-40, the Acer Aspire One 521 Netbook with an AMD K125 and much more.

Acer Aspire 1551 11.6" Notebook Review

Acer is a somewhat understated name in the notebook business, but even though they may not receive the sheer press that Apple, Alienware, Dell and HP do, they're still one of the world's prominent PC makers. Hanging amongst the top five in total PC...

AMD CPU bests Atom rigs ; Unique, refreshing design ; Multi-gesture trackpad ; Fantastic keyboard ; 4GB of RAM + 64-bit OS

Glossy LCD ; Gets quite warm in use ; No USB 3.0 ; 5400RPM Hard Drive ; Lackluster battery life

PerformanceSummary: In our SiSoftware Sandra tests, the Acer Aspire 1551-5448 showed fairly well, but when compared to the netbook competition out there, we'd say it did even better. AMD's chips tend to be great for netbooks, oftentimes feeling far...

Nice laptop

The value is real worth the price a dual core cpu netbook is much more useful and running smoother than a single core cpu netbook

5400rpm HDD?? Better has at least a 7200rpm HDD

GREAT PRODUCT

Be sure to take all of the extra junk off of the computer that you won't ever use and don't need. If you are looking for small, compact and EXTREMELY MOBILE, then this is the computer for you!!!

Very compact and light weight! Lots of space AFTER you remove all of the pointless and needless items that are pre-installed. I upgraded the memory to 4GB as well and it has a very quick response time for only being a 1.3GHz computer. Almost small...

No DVD/CD drive, but that was expected for the size of the computer. Other than that, NONE

The link between the netbook and notebook.

Overall, this is an amazing machine. If you're reading this and you're on the fence, my advice is to take the leap. This won't disappoint you for on the go tasking and day to day use.

The mesh lid is perfect! To me, the main idea of having a small computer is mobility, so having a fingerprint/scratch magnet is a red flag, for me ; The light weight makes it easy to carry anywhere ; Bloat ware was minimal, compared to my Toshiba ; I...

The keyboard is tight, but that's expected ; The touch pad is also tight, but again it's expected. After adjusting the touch pad controls (disabling all those finger tricks), I've managed to get more, much needed space ; My only real con is the touch...

Netbook size...notebook performance

This has the same specs as a Dell netbook/notebook i was looking at..that was $650 out the door..This Acer can have the same specs for much cheaper.. Upgrade the HDD to 7200rpm. Upgrade RAM to 4gb (2 x 2gb) to make use of dual-channel..saw instant and...

Dual-core, can use 4gb of DUAL CHANNEL DDR3 RAM ; ATI 4250 graphics card ; No bloatware..aside for Norton..(get rid if it and get Avast) ; Its only $20 for a 2gb RAM upgrade to 4gb total for the dual channel(crucial.com)

Don't really like the flat keyboard style..but it works ; The don't sell and extended life battery..the 6 cell get about 2:30 hrs if screen on median brightness and heavy wifi surfing..can get about 4:30 hrs if wifi off and brightness all down, just...

Great travel computer

Upgraded system RAM to 4GB (2 x 2GB), now I have 3.75GB available memory with Windows 7 64bit.

Light weight, fairly well performing computer. I can even run Photoshop CS4 without any problem. Large key board. HDMI output works great

No dedicated video memory. The statement "Video Memory ; 384MB dedicated memory" is not true. System memory is shared for video ; Web camera is lousy. Low quality pictures ; Driver download from Acer web site is extremely confusing. There are multiple...

Great little laptop

From outside of the box, it looks new. But when you open the box within the box, it looks like that it was open before (3 seals with 1 good, 2 broken). The screws in the back of the laptop were not snuggly tight when I remove them to replace the hd and...

Fast and Light. I replaced the hard drive with the 128 SSD and upgraded the ram to 4gb

None so far

Awesome!

I love it.

Beautiful screen with snappy response to inputs. It's thin and light and earns an overall 3.6 rating on Windows 7 because of the desktop performance with Windows Aero. Most ratings exceed 5. My HP Mini was a dog compared to this machine. It really...

It was not free. I wish the battery life was better than five hours, but I am asking a lot

If you want something better than a netbook

(continued from Cons): c) even the regular scroll on the right edge of the touchpad works only about half of the time. I constantly have to resort to PageUp/PageDown buttons (which also suck, as another review pointed out). OVERALL: This is the...

Bright, crisp screen. Better resolution than most of the competition ; Hardware's performance is only to be praised. This machine handles Windows 7 Pro without any hiccups. Everything is lightning-fast, even the Microsoft Office 2010, which is full of...

1) The keyboard is really difficult to use ; a) Keys themselves are simply flat: no bevel, no raised borders, nothing. So when trying to feel a button, you can't tell when one button ends and the next one begins ; b) Because of keys being flat, it...
