Acer Aspire AS7745G-6214

 

The Acer Aspire AS7745G-6214 comes with a quad-core processor and a Blu-ray drive, but it doesn't pamper you like other media centers do.

A fast quad-core processor. 8GB of memory. Good graphics performance. Likable typing experience. Blu-ray drive included.

Small battery yielded an atrocious battery score. Using last year's design. Resolution maxes out at 720p.

Multimedia delight & display frustration. Acer presents a 17.3" m

Impressive touchpad; Good application and gaming performance; BluRay-Drive; Long battery life; Adjustable graphics

Average display (contrast, limited viewing angle); Unstable notebook lid; Sensitive surface; No ExpressCard, Firewire & eSATA; Radeon HD 5850 only with DDR3-VRAM

A better display: The viewing angles are highly limited, the black value is too high and the contrast too low.

Acer Aspire 7745G

 

This is a 17.3inch notebook, in fact quite a nice powerful notebook that verges onto a Desktop replacement. With that size of screen it is only really something to be moved for long distances by private transport unless you go to the gym a lot.

It is currently available from the first link below for £754.54 and this price includes free weekday delivery. Their site also offers a free full copy of BullGuard Internet security and not the McAfee trial on the unit that I had

This 2nd hard drive thing is STUPID!

 

Can't understand why they would put slow memory and slow hard drive in a system with a fast processor. Acer support is the worst, makes Dell look great, may return it just for that reason because would hate to have a real problem and have to deal with...

Fast Processor, decent video card,HDMI port, full keyboard. I like the trackpad although had to speed it up all the way for it to act nice

Slow primary hard drive and NO Acer support on second hard drive bay! 2nd bay is why I gave up having an eSATA port. Called them with the numbers from previous post and they won't even talk to you about the parts. Manual is worthless! If I can't get...

Acer should not have advertised the 2nd hd bay as one of its features. Customers either have to be so lucky or is willing to go through the pain in getting the 2nd hd bay parts. So if you plan to buy this laptop because of the 2nd hd support, think...

Got it for the wife

 

Harder than I thought to find a good case with wheels to fit the larger screen. I eventually went with an item not advertised as a laptop case, but looks and works the same; even better because it carries all the books too. Check out "Swiss Gear" luggage.

My wife needed a laptop for school, while this provides many functions not needed for school - She loves it! Easy to use out of the box, very little configuration needed, beautiful 17" screen shows Blu-ray movies with almost no CPU effort. Very good...

Blu-ray drive is a little noisy when it is first loaded, after that it does quiet down
