Acer Aspire AS5534-1146

If you can put aside any lofty expectations, the Acer Aspire AS5534-1146 is an incredible bargain for a well-designed laptop.

Incredibly cheap. Well designed. Thin and lightweight. Big, bright 15.6-inch widescreen. A 2-year warranty from Costco. Ships with Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit). Four hours of battery life is reasonable. Optical drive included. 4GB of memory.

Weakest performer among its peers. No HDMI-Out.

Good Value

I have had no problems with the battery life or the NIC on this machine. I get through 3 hours of class on half the battery using a reasonably power scheme. If you want to watch movies and game or compile things you need to be near an outlet. 6 cell...

So far I got exactly what I expecteed, a mid level laptop that did not use shared memory for the video. I have not bothered trying to put this thing through its paces on any games as I bought it for school. I am sure it could run some older games at...

The drive bay is not protected on the bottom so often I pick it up and fell the bay give a little. I really don't like this but have been trying to avoid picking it up from that point of the machine. I expect the drive bay to be the first bit to go,...

Not bad, but very disappointing

The processing speed on this computer is absolutely horrendous. Its not for gaming, and you can't expect to be copying files at amazing speeds. Buy this computer if you're looking for reliable office or school use. Do not buy it if you're seeking to...

Stear Clear

Inexpensive, nice case

Acer has done something very stupid with this kit. A format and fresh install of Window$ means no NIC. The system reports device installed but cable disconnected. Drivers from Acer no help. After 3 hours of fiddling, I managed with another person I...

Terrible batter life

I purchased the model AS5536, which has now disappeared from Newegg, early in December. Great little notebook except for the battery life and Acer support, which is a joke

The battery that ships with the AS5536, which appears at least spec-wise to be the same battery as the 5534, lasts about an hour. I have contacted Acer technical support three different times to find out where I can purchase another longer-life...
