Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M5 review: an Ultrabook with discrete graphics (and an optical drive)

More Info Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3 review Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M5 hands-on Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M5 Ultrabooks with Kepler

Excellent graphics performance ; Relatively thin and light, given the optical drive ; Narrow bezels ; Reasonable price

Battery life could be longer ; So-so build quality

You'll be hard-pressed to find a machine this inexpensive with such robust graphics performance.

Acer Aspire M5-581T-6405

The Acer Aspire M5-581T-6405 is an affordable ultrabook offering solid productivity and battery performance in a sleek all-metal chassis.

Good performance. Solid build quality. Backlit keyboard. Long battery life.

No touch screen. Low-res display. Some bloatware.

Solid Ultrabook, Doesn't Break the Bank

For $1,000, you can get a better Ultrabook these days. With an SSD upgrade, this would make an excellent $700-800 ultrabook. Overall, this is a solid computer, and I've been glad to have it.

Backlit keyboard is a huge plus for me. This is a premium feature, and can be a lifesaver if you're doing work at college and need to work in a dark environment, or if you're trying to finish up a project while a significant other sleeps nearby. The...

The screen should be at least 1600x900 on an ultrabook of this size. The SSD+HDD offers no benefit in speed over a normal HDD...I would swap this combo out with just an SSD since they aren't too pricey these days. Fan can get whiny, and constantly...

Great Ultrabook

Really a good bargain ultrabook if you're looking to get into the mid-level and don't want a touch screen (which I did not). Don't expect hi-res graphics though.

Large screen for an ultrabook, really excellent battery life considering the screen size, easy on the wallet.

The max screen resolution is 1366x768. I wish I had paid better attention there, because it's noticeable how bad that is.

Defected keyboard

Slim design ; Fast ; Nice keyboard, except it came broken

With the broken key I've been trying to contact support but it has been two days & no respond ; I was expecting a working refurbished but not a defected refurbished. The key is clearly broken by someone who tried to unattach the key from the computer...

Not Working Properly!

Ultra-book ; i5, 6G RAM, SSD for a low price tag

The laptop arrived yesterday but after many hours of testing. It's a completed waste of my money ; When buying a refurbished product, I know what to expected and what not to beside the warranty. A refurbished should be working properly but this laptop...

Nice "ultrabook"

15.6" should have 1920x1080 res to look good.. but that's not a big deal for my usage

got 2 of these for people at work. Wiped them and put win7 pro on them ; They seem fast, well built. thin, big touchpad. fairly cheap. Ivy Bridge ; It feels like the top of lcd lid, palmrest, and space between keys is made of metal ; there's nothing...

none, but I wasn't able to test battery life
