Reasonably basic machine

All in all it's very worth the price and Newegg was fantastic.

We've had it more than a year and it still works reasonably well. Took it on a vacation trip and it's normally used for light business, basic web surfing and for family picture taking. It does what it does well and that's all we've wanted

If you're a gamer you really don't want anything like this. The touch pad is flaky, but then I never cared much for laptop pads anyway and use a wireless external mouse. Leaning palm weight, particularly on the left side, on the panel beside the...

Nice Laptop, Not-so-nice support channels

Asus has great products but I think they are having growing pains. I think they have outgrown their current support and distribution infrastructure. I have had contact with 4 different people and none knew of the prior contact with other techs. I...

Nice Price for a decent performing laptop

Received and set up laptop and immediately got message that windows wasn't genuine. Tried to go through the online support channel and got three different responses from three different techs telling me to do the same thing again and again. This...

Excellent laptop for Ubuntu

Nice keyboard layout, I love the numeric keypad, and it runs surprisingly cool. I'm not finding the touchpad to be sensitive as other reviewers say.

I wanted a cheap laptop I could put Ubuntu on. Version 10.10 installed without a hitch and everything is just working, no having to download extra drivers or anything. Sound, video, 3D acceleration, special keys, and lots of other things that can be a...

The only problem I've noticed is that the webcam is installed upside-down. It works on Windows because Asus installed drivers to flip it back, but there's no obvious way to do this on Ubuntu. Not a big deal for me since I already have a better-quality...

Asus K501 Review

the computer overall seems to be good - functioning well, speed, memory, graphics... however, when i got the computer i had to contact asus customer support because there was an error saying that the windows 7 was an illegal version. the touchpad is...

processor, non-glare screen, windows 7, graphics, camera (once you get it working)

had to update all the drivers. camera picture was upside down. you HAVE to use 2 fingers to scroll for the touchpad. had to download 72 windows updates - the computer SHOULD have came ready to use

Disappointed - Speakers failed

big screen, not too heavy, no recovery disk

internal speakers failed. just got the system and was eager to take the system abroad, but the internal speakers had no sound. it works fine with headphones, but for some strange reason, there's nothing coming from the speakers. read up on all the asus...

Decent little unit

I got this at a good price, I think Newegg was blowing them out pre Christmas. That being said, I'm very satisfied with the bang for the buck I got on this unit. I wish they would come up with a new driver for the track pad that tones the sensitivity...

Fast, fully featured, 64bit OS, light and strong/well built. I like the graphite look even though I'm not normally a fan of "shiny". Very nice screen and a decent keyboard layout.... Full size keys too! Wireless connected to my router flawlessly. All...

As others have mentioned the track pad is overly sensitive, unit is great with a mouse but that kind of negates the whole laptop idea. ASUS lost one egg because of this

Love it!

It doesn't come with install disks, but it does come with a software backup program that you can install onto 3 DVD's easily. All in all, I think this is a great deal for the money.

Nice screen, nice keyboard, fast processor, easy set up, well made

lots of random "extra" software; not a big deal

I bought this laptop for my wife as she is returning to school and it has done everything she wanted and more. There wasn't a lot of bloatware to dispose of, and since she'd become accustomed to OpenOffice products I simply downloaded that with no need...

Impressive product thus far. It's dual core processor was a massive upgrade from her previous computer (which was a dinosaur, so she'd just use my desktop). It's connectivity to WiFi hotspots is simple and easy to use for her, which surprised her, lol....

For the price, you get what you pay for, so no real complaints that would actually matter
