Asus ROG Ally (Z1) Review

Cheaper than Z1 Extreme model ; Attractive 1080p 120Hz display ; Slick design and lightweight build ; Runs full Windows 11 ; Asus software improves game library navigation ; Long battery life (outside of gaming)

$100 savings tough to justify ; Battery life remains short while gaming ; Finicky controls, particularly for navigating Windows

This entry-level version of the Asus ROG Ally costs $100 less than the Z1 Extreme launch edition, thanks to its lower-power processor, but the clear drop in frame rates won't be worth the savings for most gamers.

Asus ROG Ally Z1 review: Exponentially weaker for a small discount

I love the Asus ROG Ally, but this model isn't worth it

Gloriously bright ; Loud and full audio ; Light yet firmly built ; Armoury Crate is fantastic ; Decent productivity performance

Shockingly bad gaming framerate ; Windows 11 can be frustrating

The Asus ROG Ally Z1 continues to prove itself as a phenomenal first step for handheld Windows 11 gaming consoles, but this lower cost model’s lack of power is shockingly bad.
