Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC

Powerful desktop CPU; Specialized gaming software; Great speakers ; Slow storage speeds; Runs hot; Dismal battery life ; The Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC has a desktop-level CPU and plays most games well, but it gets hot fast and has slow storage speeds.

Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC (Ryzen 5 1600, Radeon RX 580, FHD) Laptop Review

Very power-hungry. The Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC can run all the latest games smoothly on its matte screen. The laptop comes equipped with a Ryzen 5 1600 hexa-core processor, a Radeon RX 580 GPU and a hybrid drive. This entry-level model forgoes an SSD.

bright, contrasty display ; Full HD resolution ; FreeSync ; a lot of storage space ; an empty M.2 slot ; CPU is removable ; plenty of multi-core performance

high energy consumption during idle ; heavy AC adapter ; very poor battery life ; no Thunderbolt 3 ; no SSD ; hard-to-upgrade RAM

The gaming notebook from Asus can run most games smoothly at Full HD resolution and with high graphics settings. Only a few titles require lowering the resolution and/or graphics settings. AMD’s FreeSync Technology creates a smooth gaming experience on...

Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC (Ryzen 7 1700, Radeon RX 580) Laptop Review

Sensation. While AMD's Ryzen architecture has already been available in the desktop range for several months, the notebook range had to wait patiently for a long time. The waiting is over now: Asus is the first manufacturer who provided us with a...

finally, a high-end notebook for AMD fans again ; not too thick or heavy case despite desktop CPU ; outstanding multi-core performance ; convenient interface layout ; convincing IPS panel ; replaceable processor ; keyboard light ; decent sound ;...

very loud in 3D mode ; very high power consumption ; lid tends to creak ; poor battery life ; no Thunderbolt 3 ; huge power supply ; only 4 GB VRAM ; no PCIe SSD

The verdict on the Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC depends on the intended use. Professional users who depend on highest possible CPU performance and/or profit heavily from it will get an almost incomparably fast platform in the 17-incher. The 8-core Ryzen 7...

Asus GL702VM-GC102D Notebook Review

Slim gaming laptop. Asus packs a lot of gaming power into a slim 17.3-inch notebook. Even so, the laptop does not produce too much noise or heat. Due to the deactivated integrated GPU, the laptop consumes more power while idling than necessary.

Matte IPS screen ; Full HD resolution ; G-Sync ; Plenty of storage ; Unoccupied M.2 slot ; Thunderbolt 3

iGPU deactivated ; No full Turbo exhaustion ; Relatively high power consumption in idle state ; The click pad doesn't always function properly

With the GL702VM, Asus offers a relatively slim 17.3-inch gaming notebook. But, do not be fooled by the slim exterior; the laptop packs a good dose of processing power. A quad-core Core i7 and Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1060 graphics core form a duo which...

Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC Laptop Review

The Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC is an enticing and unusual gaming laptop. Not only does this machine rely on an AMD processor and graphics card – an odd sight in 2018 – it uses desktop parts rather than laptop silicon. The GL702ZC pairs a current-generation...

Our Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC laptop review demonstrates that the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 delivers fantastic multi-threaded performance that will help tackle all sorts of tough tasks – but the presence of desktop components is a double-edged sword. It...

ASUS ROG Strix GL702ZC (AMD Ryzen 7 1700, Radeon RX 580) review – a really good workstation with ROG’s branding on top?

Nice keyboard for typing;Excellent IPS display; No PWM across all brightness levels;Extremely powerful desktop-grade CPU with amazing multi-core performance; The CPU can be replaced as it uses standard socket

Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC impressions – what to expect from an AMD Ryzen laptop

The Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC is a mixed bag. On one hand it looks like a regular notebook, but on the other hand it behaves differently, as it is built on desktop grade AMD Ryzen and Polaris hardware. That makes it an excellent performer in tasks that...

There’s no other similar notebook out there at this point, but even so the ROG Strix GL702ZC is a mixed bag.

ASUS ROG Strix GL702VS review – not a worthy replacement of the ASUS ROG G752VS

How is the ASUS ROG Strix GL702VS any different than the ASUS ROG G752VS? That's the first question we asked ourselves when looking at the specs sheet. And in which cases the GL702VS is a mor…

Generally sturdy build;Fairly portable for a 17-inch gaming laptop; The touchpad is nice despite being too small;A wide range of I/O;An excellent IPS panel with 75Hz and G-Sync (120Hz version is optional); The panel doesn’t use PWM for regulating brightness

Suboptimal choice of materials;Keyboard could be better (longer key travel);Poor battery life due to the absence of NVIDIA Optimus support;GPU throttles under heavy workload (unconvincing cooling system)

Asus ROG Strix GL702VM (GTX 1060, Core i5, G-Sync)

The latest gaming laptop from Asus looks the part, and it pairs its smart design with a price designed to undercut many of its rivals. The ROG Strix GL702VM costs just £1,200, which makes it hundreds of pounds cheaper than many other gaming notebooks.

This machine is inevitably built with compromise in mind, but the Asus gets it right in key departments. The GTX 1060 is an excellent mid-range GPU, the screen has the ideal resolution and G-Sync alongside decent quality, and the processor is capable.
