Asus X55C-SX049H

Perfect for everyday use, I'm currently using this for university work. The battery life is great, the laptop turns on quickly and performance is very good.

Comes with a lot of additional asus software (but these applications can be removed to improve performance further)

Smooth running, no problems, Everything seems to be running really well and it's easy to use.

Heats up a little but not too much hassle

Sleek, works well once you get used to windows 8, does everything I needed for a reasonable price

Bit hard to work out if off or on, only 2 USB ports next to each other, apart from that none so far

Lightweight, cool, efficient, slim, good value for money. Only fault is the finish on it piks up every fingerprint but I can live with that. Overall good buy :)

Battery pretty good for the price, start up and shut down take mere seconds

The mouse pad feels cheap, and the keyboard isn't great, but compromises have to be made for the price I guess

Very good price for a modern laptop with fast processor and full keyboard. Big enough HDD for home use. Enough RAM. Very good display. Very easy setup and wi-fi connection.

Is Windows 8 really that big an improvement over Win7? It just seems to confuse tasks that were standard in XP.

Cheap

Stopped working within 2 weeks of use; stuck in Aptio boot screen. Currently waiting return instructions. Loses performance points for that.
