Dell Latitude E5540: a well-specified corporate laptop [Review]

In all the furor over super-slim Ultrabooks and magically transforming hybrids, it's sometimes easy to forget that some people just need a basic portable. The Dell Latitude E5540 is aimed at those people. It's not a fundamentally exciting notebook by...

The Dell Latitude E5540 is a well-specified corporate laptop with a reasonable price tag. It sports a good screen, plenty of storage, and all the ports and wireless connections you are likely to need. However, the non-upgradeable 4GB of RAM will reduce...

DELL E5440

Was happy that I got the upgraded graphics, Bluetooth, and SmartCard reader. I am going to add another 8GB of RAM and can add the mSATA SSD while the laptop case is open. The last Dell Latitude I had was the D-series and this newer generation E-series...

Lightweight, has i7 processor and other extras not found in laptops unless you custom order. Came with the optional nVidia graphics not listed in the product description. Also has a SmartCard reader that I need to make this system compatible with my...

Was not equipped with the 256GB SSD (mSATA) as described in the product listing. I want(ed) to dual boot the E5440 between the 500 GB HDD and the 256 GB mSATA SSD. The four star rating was mainly due to packaging. The Latitude shipments I see arrive at...

Dell E5440

All in all, this is a great laptop for the price. When coupled with a docking station - the few minor shortcomings are quickly rectified. Much lighter than the units these replaced, which is very nice when traveling. I was initially concerned about the...

Good spec for the price ; 4th gen I7 processor easily handles anything I throw at it ; Discreet graphics, Intel AC wifi card, and SSD all come together to make a package ; Listed as DVD-ROM - mine actually came with DVD/RW drives

USB ports are limited (3) and, for the specs, a displayport onboard would be nice - definitely not dealbreakers though

Good System

THREE YEAR WARRANTY

Good basic i5 system with Win7 Pro and a 3 year warranty

Plastic casing. But still seems very sturdy

Solid Basic Business System

DELL still builds a solid LATITUDE. Just wish more business class systems came with the 3 year warranty.

Good build quality. Nice keyboard for a 14" laptop. Comes with a recovery CD. Not too heavy ; 3 YEAR WARRANTY....which is becoming increasingly rare from any laptop manufacturer

Plastic. Time will tell how well it withstands daily portability. But....we've got at least 3 years before it becomes our problem
