Dell Vostro 1510 Review

After last year's successful launch of the new Vostro line of computers targeted at small businesses, Dell made a serious effort to listen to customer feedback criticizing Dell's thick and heavy laptops. The result was a bold revision of the Vostro...

Dell Vostro 1510

A classy looking machine with a fair balance of price and features.

Good performance for a mid-range notebook., Stylish design., Plenty of configuration options when purchasing., Convenient access to support and good warranty options

Large machines like this have lower battery lives., Not available for inspection in stores., No docking port option

Cheap business laptops: 3 for under $850

We test 3 low-cost laptops to find out whether they can stand up to typical business tasks.

Light weight, volume dial, great Wi-Fi utility, inexpensive warranty extension

Lacks 802.11n, keyboard flexes, low-resolution webcam, no fingerprint scanner

Dell Vostro 1510 Review

The Dell Vostro 1510 is sold by Dell as a small business targeted laptop. It has a 15.4″ widescreen display, relatively thin design, and has a black glossy finish. The Vostro 1510 is available in a wide variety of configurations, with processor...

Dell Vostro 1510

Elegant and fully-featured business notebook with great battery life

Sturdy and good looking design, slot-loading optical drive, fast performance

Touch buttons are sometimes slow to respond, doesn't have draft-n wireless networking

This notebook is ideal for business users who want a big screen, good connectivity options and above all, a solidly built unit for the road. There's not much wrong with it at all.

Fantastic value

Though I have no complaints, the machine doesn't feel particularly rugged. I've been reading that laptops are being manufactured to a 24-month replacement cycle. But even if that's the case, I'm fine with that. Even if this machine lasts only two...

Lightweight, everything I need is included, and it is plenty fast. Bought it for $499 including XP, 3Gb, 250Gb. Great screen and no keyboard flex. Can't beat that

The keyboard layout is taking some getting used to (putting Home/End on function keys and having arrow keys less than full size is a drawback). The keyboard is also recessed further from the front lip than I prefer

Consumer review (dell.com)

Overall good, but a few key design flaws

I previously owned an Inspiron 1520 (same as the Vostro 1500) and I guess I got spoiled. What made me get rid of the 1520 were the terrible reflections off the glossy screen. The 1520 was bigger, heavier but it had a nice keyboard layout, USB layout,...

Very solid and well built. Nice form factor. One of the few Dell laptops left with a matte (non-glare) screen option

Unforgivable USB port placement. Poor speakers, poor speaker placement. Compromised keyboard design to place speakers pointing at (non-digital) microphone. The lid is a pain to open and close, but the keyboard flex some have mentioned seems fine to me....
