Classic timeless design ; Matt screen ; Good keyboard and touchpad ; Pleasant matt finish on the base unit ; Very customizable ; Recovery media included ; Good performance for the price ; Access panels allow maintenance and upgrades

Some useful ports have been omitted ; Customizing quickly drives up the price ; Tendency to overheat (touchpad gets quite warm)

Almost all major laptop manufacturers have a range of reasonably priced business models, for instance HP's Probook range, Lenovo's Thinkpad SL range or Acer's Extensa range

Dell Vostro 1520 Review

 

The Dell Vostro 1520 is sold by Dell as a small business targeted laptop. It has a 15.4″ widescreen display, relatively thin design, and has a black glossy finish.  The Vostro 1520 is an update to the Vostro 1510 laptop released last year by Dell.

This 15.4in Dell laptop has built-in 3G connectivity

Built-in 3G modem, good performance, relatively light, good battery life

Doesn't have a digital video output port, we couldn't connect to the 3G network in our area

Dell's Vostro 1520 is a 15.4in notebook with a 9-cell battery, yet it weighs a reasonable 2.7kg. With a built-in 3G modem and a powerful CPU, it's a great workhorse for the business user who wants a mid-sized notebook that's comfortable to work on.

Great system for a very good price!

 

I am very, very happy with this system. I wanted a knock-about 15" system with good battery life. The Vostro 1520 is built well enough to last for years. NewEgg strikes again with a superb system for a very good price!!

Very good build quality with a strong base and lid. Battery life of 3+ hours. Bright and evenly-lit LED LCD. Comes with XP SP3 and Vista Business 32 + driver and apps CD. Qualifies for Windows 7 Pro upgrade. Keyboard has no flex and is not a...

I knew this in advance - but it does not have a webcam or built-in microphone. Not a big deal - but Dell Quickset is not available for this system - so no on-screen brightness meter, etc

Decent Dell

 

Pros: Good value for the money. It is fast and the Dell 1397 wifi works well. The screen is bright and does not suffer from annoying reflections.Cons: The fan is very quiet. Barely noticeable. But, it is on all the time. Will it get louder as time goes...
