Dell XPS 13 review: Hard not to like

It's finally happened. With the 2019 revision, I've finally run out things to complain about in the XPS 13 (almost).

Dell has fixed this laptop's only remaining serious flaw, designing a super-slim 2mm webcam to fit into the thin screen bezel. Optional colors look great, as does the 4K touchscreen. Excellent keyboard, and decent battery life for a 4K laptop.

The entry level configuration, while well-priced, cuts too many corners. I don't love the woven texture on the wrist rest.

It's nearly impossible to find anything to dislike about this 13-inch slim powerhouse, at least in the pricey high-end configuration tested here.

Dell XPS 13 (9380)

Dell moves the webcam to where it always should have been, fixing one of the very few faults of the drop-dead gorgeous, highly capable XPS 13. Earning our highest recommendation and a rare five-star rating, the XPS 13 (9380) is, indisputably, the best...

Compact and classy. Beautiful rose-gold-and-white color scheme. 4K touch screen. Two Thunderbolt 3 ports plus USB-C.

No HDMI or USB Type-A ports. 4K display isn't the best for battery life. Loaded models get pricey.

Bottom Line: Dell moves the webcam to where it always should have been, fixing one of the very few faults of the drop-dead gorgeous, highly capable XPS 13. Earning our highest recommendation and a rare five-star rating, the XPS 13 (9380) is,...

Dell XPS 13 9380 review: The best little laptop fixes its biggest problem

Dell finally caved to convention and moved the super Dell XPS 13's camera up to the top bezel.

Camera finally back on top and no more turkey waddle neck ; Intel's Whiskey Lake U offers a decent but marginal performance bump

Doesn't support Windows Hello facial login ; 1080P version lacks touch screen support option

There’s one more very important thing inside the XPS 13 9380 that nerds care about: performance.

Dell XPS 13 (2019)

The Dell XPS 13 serves up a new color, a powerful Intel Whiskey Lake processor, a 4K display (and ditches the ridiculous "nosecam") - all in a slim, lightweight chassis.

Dell XPS 13 9380 (i7-8565U, 4K UHD) Laptop Review

The new Whiskey Lake-U Core i7 XPS 13 9380 is only about 10 percent faster than the last generation Core i7 XPS 13 9370. It\'s a very minor gen-to-gen update that doesn\'t offer any new surprises for an already excellent subnotebook series.

cycling Turbo Boost clock rates allow for faster CPU performance on average;crisp 4K UHD touchscreen, high contrast ratio, full sRGB coverage;fast 512 GB Samsung NVMe SSD;no pulse-width modulation;compact and rigid design;very narrow bezels

Core i7-8565U is less than 10 percent faster than the Core i5-8265U SKU;USB Type-C and Thunderbolt 3 only; no full-size ports;light-moderate uneven backlight bleeding;slightly louder fan noise than Core i5 SKU;slight electronic noise on our test...

Solid battery life ; The new MagLev keyboard offers a great typing experience ; Good display ; Great performance (thanks to Intel Ice Lake) ; Comes with a stylus ; Windows Hello support via the fingerprint reader

Limited ports ; The not-so-bright keyboard backlight ; Screen dimming issues

The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (2019) is a great laptop that is super portable, offers great specs and fun to use included stylus.
