Gateway T-6815 All-Purpose Laptop

This low-cost all-purpose laptop looks good and has a convenient volume swipe; less desirable are the slow performance and dim screen.

Very inexpensive ; Cool swipe volume control

Lacks FireWire port for fast downloads ; Raspy speakers

At just $900 (as of 10/24/07), the Gateway T-6815 is one of the least-expensive laptops we've tested in some time. With its glossy black finish and light and compact design, it should be catnip for students and small-office professionals....

Gateway T-6815

The Gateway T-6815 delivers the competent performance and low price we've come to expect from Gateway, with the addition of a lovely new case design.

Inexpensive; attractive, sleek design; large, comfortable touch pad; dedicated media controls; ExpressCard slot.

Pokey performance; keyboard design seems dated; slightly heavy.

The Gateway T-6815 delivers the competent performance and the low price we've come to expect from Gateway, with the addition of a lovely new case design.

Consumer review (newegg.com)

Good Overall

The glossiness is a nice touch, but it's easily scratched and loses its luster rather quickly.

Reasonable Price, Core 2 Duo, Vista Home Premium, scroll bar on the touchpad, touch volume controls, webcam. Also, the cooling system for the CPU is very nice... multiple heatpipes with a copper heatsink and a fan

Volume controls are weird, and don't control very well. Also, there is a design flaw: when the lid is shut, the windows media center button is easily depressed by gripping the laptop. If you carry the laptop around closed but still on... expect windows...

Consumer review (newegg.com)

solid

confirmed with gateway customer service that it is upgradeable to 4gb, also checked with kingston and crucial.

ram upgrades to 4gb, centrino, touch volume slider, camera, paid less than 7xx

speakers not loud enough, but typical for notebooks
