HP 255 G2 review

A low-priced laptop that's reasonably capable

Very affordable ; Responsive ; Generous amount of memory

Awful screen ; Restricted to less demanding tasks ; Thick and heavy chassis

The HP 255 G2 lacks any bells and whistles, but works really well as an entry-level system.

Nice little laptop, but be forewarned about upgrading the OS

This computer ships with Ubuntu 12.04 installed, but the latest stable version of Ubuntu is 14.04. If you plan to upgrade -- and the Ubuntu Software Center will prompt you to -- you should do it by burning an Ubuntu 14.04 DVD and installing from that,...

The screen is a nice size and the price was great. I also really like the keyboard; the keys respond to very light pressure (though I'm not sold on the up and down arrows being half-size)

I agree with the other reviewers who say that this laptop is slow -- even right out of the box, some ordinary tasks take longer than expected. I also had some issues upgrading the OS (see "Other thoughts")

Hard to believe that this device was truly refurbished.

Would not power up at all

Not worth buying!

Straight out of the box, this computer had multiple programs freeze up, and the online HP help screen wouldn't even respond to open a case. After an hour on the phone and a couple hours to reboot, the computer is working better but still lags often. I...

HP 255 E1-2100

Seems a good buy over all. It was bought as a first laptop for my 13 year old daughter for school work. So far so good.

Cheap first laptop with dvd drive

Slow unless you remove the bloat ware and change the settings to high performance then it's fairly decent for normal everyday use.
