HP G42-415DX

Despite attractive design, the HP G42-415DX laptop is lacking in terms of both performance and battery life.

Winning design elements. Lightweight. HDMI port.

Poor performance, components for the price.

HP G42-243CL-B

With the HP G42-243CL-B you get a relatively light, 14-inch laptop and a multi-function printer at an affordable price.

Affordable. Includes multi-function printer. Two-year warranty.

Sluggish performance. Reflective screen. Bloatware.

HP G42-356TU

A 14-inch laptop with a non-glossy finish, the HP G42 offers more RAM and hard drive space than any other laptop at its price.

Non-glossy finish ; Nice design pattern ; Greater RAM, hard drive space ; Performs well ; Crisp, clear onboard audio

Touchpad merges into palmrest ; No Gigabit Ethernet

The HP G42-256TU is a compact, lightweight 14-inch laptop for budget-conscious buyers. It offers more RAM and hard drive space than most of its competitors, for its price.

I was wary of HP products. Their user friendliness assumes that I want to be their friend, and I do not. Unfortunately, I unexpectedly crashed my old computer and needed a cheap fast replacement for school. This computer is great for video and web, and...

Light weight and up to date

Small trackpad in the center w/o marking for scroll bar. Trackpad buttons are very stiff ; Keyboard design makes it a little tricky for me to reach the right shift key ; Speakers sound awful, but atleast they make sound

Update on this laptop

At this point, even though this is under warranty, I may have to just trash this piece of junk and buy a better brand than HP. I dont think I will ever buy another HP again.

Not much to add since my last review

a few weeks ago the wireless connection started acting up. It works fine for a few minutes and but slows down to a crawl. The connection to the router constantly keeps fluctuating between 36mbps to 1mbps for no reason (laptop is stationary). Initially...

My Sister has no trouble with it

much more powerfull then a netbook or any laptop this light. Atoms are so under powered but this has the p520 under the hood. With 4 gigs of ram you wont need more. This is not a gaming laptop by any means, but is great as a more powerful netbook...

Lightweight, long batt life, full size keyboard. Its as light as you get with out going to a netbook with smaller keyboard. No cd-rom so less weight when on the move

Could not find a way to disable tap to click. My sister is a writer and does a lot of typing. She would prefer to use the mouse buttons to click instead of accidentally clicking wither her wrist while typing. This is easily ficed by throwing the...

Wow

Spent an hour or two cleaning out the bloatware, and doing the tuneup and backing up the whole drive and its 4 partitions into a 40GB backup via acronis. deleted the last 2 partitions (restore partition n diagnostic partition) leaving that little 100mb...

Great laptop. Has all the bells n whistles u need in a great Mid performing and more laptop. i could care les about no bluetooth- which was the only thing missing ; Bought it for my cousing who ws recovering from the netbook trends. We were waiting for...

comes with all 4 drive partitions used up preventing from spitting the drive for a "My Documents" Partition ; Absolutely necessary for a 99% full proof backed up system

I got a good one

I am suprised to see so many people having bad experiences with this computer. In the past, I was wary of HP because of their quality having declined. Recent reports suggest the trend has changed recently, though, so I pushed the anti-HP thoughts out...

I sought out this computer because of the AMD "Champlain" P520 processor, which was just released a few months ago and is a solid, low energy-consuming processor that for 14" and 15" laptops. I have owned many AMD laptops recently and this dual core,...

HP has a grip on this computer from all of the software that is loaded on it. Some of the Windows components are actually changed or integrated into HP programs. This makes uninstalling bloatware a bit of a process. I recommend to leave what isn't...

Terrible.

NewEgg customer service was very understanding and gave me store credit so that I could purchase a laptop that didnt have significant flaws.

Cost

I also had a problem where every time I put it to sleep or closed the lid windows would crash. The HP technicians told me it was a known issue and that they had no solution ; Tons of bloatware
