Huawei MateBook 13 review: An uninspiring MacBook Air clone

The Huawei MateBook 13 offers powerful performance, a comfortable keyboard and a roomy trackpad in an uninspired chassis. Throw in a serviceable but somewhat dim display and mediocre battery life, and you've got a good but ultimately unexciting laptop.

Powerful performance ; Comfortable keyboard

Heavy ; Screen is a bit dim

Huawei MateBook 13

Discrete graphics, an unusual screen aspect ratio, and a tempting price make Huawei's MateBook 13 ultraportable worth a look for traveling execs or even light gamers.

Handsome, compact design. Colorful display with 3:2 aspect ratio. Lively performance. USB-C dock included.

Core i7 config has 8GB, not 16GB, of memory. No Thunderbolt 3 port. No SD card slot.

Bottom Line: Discrete graphics, an unusual screen aspect ratio, and a tempting price make Huawei's MateBook 13 ultraportable worth a look for traveling execs or even light gamers.

Huawei MateBook 13 review: sophomore struggles

The MateBook 13's biggest problem is the MateBook X Pro.

Great build quality ; Excellent keyboard and trackpad ; Compact design with 3:2 display ; Powerful processor plus optional discrete GPU

Below-average battery life ; Limited USB-C ports ; No Thunderbolt 3 support ; Overly aggressive automatic brightness sensor

If you are looking for the most compact premium Windows laptop with a 3:2 display, discrete graphics, and a great price, the MateBook 13 is it. But most people should just go with the MateBook X Pro instead.

Huawei Matebook 13 review: a powerful GPU and Whiskey Lake chip propel this compact notebook

Huawei's Matebook 13 combines Intel's latest Whiskey Lake Core chip and the power of a discrete GPU to deliver a high-performance yet compact 13-inch notebook that's priced right, too.

Discrete GPU boosts graphics performance ; Price point offers good value for money ; Solid construction in a compact footprint ; One of the first laptops to include Intel's latest Whiskey Lake chip

Average battery life isn't quite enough for a full day's work ; A little skimpy in the I/O ports department ; U.S. government believes Huawei is a security risk

While it’s tempting to call the Matebook 13 a thin-and-light PC, the combination of the discrete GPU and Intel’s latest Whiskey Lake chip help the Matebook 13 punch well above its weight class. Because of this, the lack of at least one Thunderbolt port...

Huawei MateBook 13 (i7-8565U, GeForce MX150) Laptop Review

A GPU beast. Don't let its diminutive size fool you — this 3:2 13.0-inch laptop is equipped with a much faster GPU than your typical Ultrabook. Huawei's latest offering is supposed to be a mid-range product, but its unique build and specifications are...

MateDock 2 docking station included in box ; impressive GPU performance for the size ; large keyboard keys and trackpad ; faster than the MateBook X Pro ; silent during low-medium loads ; high quality 3:2 touchscreen ; normal webcam placement

right USB-C port does not support AC adapter charging ; moderate-heavy uneven backlight bleeding ; cannot recharge and game simultaneously ; keys could be firmer; shallow travel ; high-pitched fans when gaming ; limited to 8 GB of soldered RAM ;...

The MateBook 13 is priced slightly lower than the flagship MateBook X Pro because it's supposed to be a lower-tier option. In reality, it actually outperforms the X Pro while keeping the super-thin and attractive chassis design intact. We're not just...

HUAWEI MateBook 13 laptop [Review]

There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all laptop. Sure, there are some computers that are built for general use and should meet the needs of many, but due to personal preferences, there will never be an overall consensus on style, size, or price....

Huawei Matebook 13 review: A cheaper Matebook X Pro with killer performance

This $1,299 laptop is stiff competition for Huawei's own $1,499 Matebook X Pro.

Minimalist yet sturdy design.

No Thunderbolt 3.

Nevertheless, I question why most would even consider the Matebook X Pro when the Matebook 13 now exists. Will users be willing to spend around $300 more for Thunderbolt 3, killer battery life, and a larger, higher-resolution screen? Especially when...

Huawei's MacBook Air Clone For Windows Is Nearly Flawless

Last year, Huawei took a big shot at Apple with the MateBook X Pro, a laptop that encapsulated some of the best things about MacBook Pro line while ignoring more gimmicky features like the Touch Bar and Apple's frustrating butterfly keyboard. So for...
