Toshiba Kirabook (2014) review

The Kirabook's modest revision includes a faster processor and a smaller price tag. Unfortunately for Toshiba, the competition has improved, too.

The new revision of Toshiba’s Kirabook is in every way a better laptop than its predecessor, but the competition has also improved and high-resolution displays have become more common, detracting from the system’s main selling point. Indeed, we think...

Toshiba Kirabook (2014) review

The first generation of Toshiba's Kirabook was an ambitious shot at creating a high-end product with MacBook-like buzz. That slim 13-inch magnesium-alloy laptop was even the first post-Retina PC we'd seen with a better-than-HD screen resolution -- a...

The slim, lightweight Toshiba Kirabook still feels very premium, and it deserves credit for being one of the first Windows laptops to feature a better-than-HD display. Thanks to an updated CPU, battery life is now good enough for all-day use.

Higher-res screens are more common now, and available for less. The generic brushed-metal look isn't particularly distinctive given the price.

The design of Toshiba's high-end Kirabook hasn't changed since last year, but it has aged gracefully. The components get an update and the battery life gets a big boost, making this an all-around excellent, but expensive, ultrabook.

"Looks great but has fundamental known design faults - screen & Wifi"

Same issues as everyone else with the Kira Ultrabook: screen began color began cycling continuously after some use so the only way to use it is to plug into another screen or projector to be able to access. Clearly a design fault Toshiba is 100% aware...

Touch screen and resolution

Wifi almost unusable. Low power, drops constantly. Screen fault causes it cycle, Red, Green, etc. Need to replace screen (Common Known Faults).

A Wonderful Machine

I am not a big tech person, I look at having to buy a new computer like having to buy a new car. My last Toshiba lasted a few years and I was very happy with it. The power died so instead of getting it repaired I decided on a new machine. , the...
