Review Lenovo G550 Notebook

Goodbye IBM. Lenovo's G550, part of its 'Value Line' range, was d

Comfortable keyboard with number pad; Casing has a matt finish; Good peformance

Reflective display; Limited choice and poor positioning of ports

Affordable 15-something inch machines like the Dell Vostro 1520 or the HP Probook 4510s, although these are more orientated towards the business market. The HP Compaq 6735s could also be an interesting alternative.

Lenovo G550 Review

The new Lenovo G550 is an update to the Value Line G530 with the primary difference being the shift from a 16:10 to a 16:9 screen. This is becoming a common trend for most manufacturers, as they shift to the now more standardized 16:9 screens. The...

Almost tough enough to stand on ; Textured interior and exterior finish hides smudges and fingerprints ; Comfortable and solid keyboard

Missing features from previous revision

Lenovo transitioned to a new touchpad on the G550, switching from the Synaptics model on the G530 to an ALPS pad. The ALPS pad doesn't have as quick of a refresh rate, so at times it feels like the pointer is lagging behind your finger. Another problem...

A fantastic machine that ticks most of the boxes required of a family laptop

Solid performance ; Decent graphics ; Great screen ; Good battery life

No card reader ; Slightly spongy keyboard

A great laptop to suit the whole family or the mobile worker alike.

Lenovo G550 review

Lenovo's G550 tries to combine ThinkPad build quality with consumer-friendly features, but it's a disappointing mix.

But despite fine performance, Lenovo’s G550 doesn’t deliver the all-round panache of some of its rivals. With a poor display, unremarkable build quality and mediocre ergonomics, it simply doesn’t have what it takes to compete with best in this price...

Great Laptop!

I bought this laptop for $399 in the summer of 2010 to use for college, and still using it in 2014. It has been very reliable and hasn't given me any serious problems at all. After a few years it slows down quite a bit, but keeping up with maintenance...

Price ($399) ; good, fast dual-core processor (can run multiple programs) ; good ram (4GB) ; decent storage ; decent keyboard

max ram is 4GB, not expandable ; bad viewing angles ; touchpad good be better ; no HDMI ports, or any other card reader ports ; no bluetooth ; plasticky, a bit cheap on parts... CD drive cover has come off, headphone port is broken, panel over heat...

Not bad for the price

I should have sent it right back for the cd cover problem but I didn't want to go through the hassle and then not have a laptop while waiting for a replacement.

Runs 64-bit Win 7 nicely ; Dual-boot with Ubuntu is flawless ; Was impressed with the performance for the price

The CD drive cover fell off as soon as I unpacked the laptop. I snapped it back on but it's very loose. Usually picking up the laptop by it's sides causes it to come off again ; The touchpad click buttons are annoyingly loud

After 6 months of sporadic use (2-3 days a week an hr or two a day) it died

one issue: jumping cursor

overall a good computer, but the touchpad is poorly designed.

this computer has been excellent for me in about 90% of its features and functioning

There is one integral problem with this computer: because the touchpad is sensitive and vibrates with the motion of typing, the cursor tends to jump around on the page. You can opt to disable the cursor while typing, which i did, and it works. but the...

Excellent Buy, for my Grandson!

I picked up a computer travel kit from Newegg for him for Christmas, has a USB hub, USB light, cardreader, headphones & mouse. That takes care of all the stuff he didn't have.

I got this for my Grandson as he needed a reliable computer to help with school-work! Great price on sale! Even w/o the card reader, it is a great computer. A good, solid laptop! I didn't care for the touchpad, but he has no problem with it. Much...

I removed a LOT of Bloatware! Veriface? No he sure didn't need that! I already had a full version Office, and an excellent virus program (good for 3 yrs). took a few days to delete the junk & install all of his school stuff & music files, but he was...
