Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 4185 review: Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 4185

Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 4185

Movie-friendly 16:9 screen, thin and light, sturdy and stylish design, good speakers.

Too much dead space in the keyboard tray; multitouch touch pad isn't well supported.

Online media consumers who want a portable laptop with high style and plenty of screen real estate should give the Y650 a look.

Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 Laptop Review

Extremely light, thin 16 inch notebook ; Some of the best laptop speakers around

Low resolution for such a large display ; Poor graphics performance for gaming

Looking to watch some videos after meetings? Between the big screen and office performance, this might work for you.

Review: Lenovo IdeaPad Y650

Lenovo's new IdeaPad Y650 hardly has a flaw. Its Apple-esque chassis is loaded with decent components and it even excels (gasp!) at video playback. The...

Innovative, touch-sensitive quick-launch bar. Prettier than Princess Buttercup. Special movie mode makes videos or DVDs look and sound better. Light for its size, right for its price

Deafening tone when you insert or remove the power connector is borderline dangerous if you’re wearing headphones. Though the speakers have a snazzy design, a moiré pattern in the grille makes them look dirty

Lenovo IdeaPad Y650

Look out, Apple. When it comes to thin-and-light media centers, the Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 is giving the MacBook Pro a run for its money.

As light as the 15-inch MacBook Pro. Tastefully designed. Fast and energy-efficient processor. HDMI and eSATA ports are present.

Only two USB ports. Multitouch feature gets in the way of navigating. Needs higher resolutions. Low-powered battery and no option to trade up.

Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 Review

The IdeaPad Y650 has an all-new look compared to previous IdeaPad notebooks. As part of the new IdeaPad refresh earlier this year, the Y650 distinguishes itself as being one of the thinnest and lightest laptops in its class. In fact, the Y650 weighs...

Excellent build quality ; Solid performance ; Fantastic touchpad ; Good speakers

Limited selection of ports for a 16-inch multimedia notebook ; Keyboard is a little small considering the size of the notebook ; All-in-one bottom plate means you have to remove too many screws for upgrades ; Who needs palmrests when you can have armrests

That said, the Y650 is thinner and lighter than any other 16-inch notebook we've seen ... and the discrete graphics card in this machine is perfectly capable of handling HD video decoding and digital audio out over HDMI for watching movies on your...

Lenovo IdeaPad Y650

What's hot: LED display is gorgeous and stereo audio is excellent. Good performance.

Stylish design and slim body, bright, sharp and colorful screen, excellent audio, good performance in most tasks. Good utility software

No fingerprint scanner, mouse keys are stiff, battery life is short

ThinkPad fans should be happy to see that Lenovo is making a run at the consumer notebook market. The Lenovo Y650 is a strong contender amongst HP, Dell and Sony notebooks. It has a display that rivals Sony's high-end displays, Dolby audio with JBL...
