Review Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530 (NZQBQGE) Notebook

Consumer laptop for business. Lenovo's ThinkPad Edge E530 is trying really hard to make an attempt at being a representative of the “ThinkPad” brand for the masses. This review will evaluate whether the offering will cut it in a market looking for...

Good system performance, Good upgrade options, Bright and matte screen, Cool case, Successful fusion of the consumer and business category with balanced qualities

Contrast weak, viewing angle dependent and course resolution screen, Partly fluctuating fan, GPU's performance throttling on battery, A better screen, intelligent interface distribution and predictable fan behaviour in some situations

Fine hardware

Windows 8 has officially driven me to Linux. Linux leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to easy of use, but if I have to learn all new things anyway I'd rather learn an open source OS.

The first thing I did was install Ubuntu. It's been great ever since (although 14.04 complains about a back-light thing on boot, the back-light FN keys work fine)

I'd rather have had a solid state hard drive over the huge one it came with. Windows 8 key in Bios means you don't own a legal copy to visualize a Windows OS if you want

Its hardware matches the description. Worked well for about 6 months

Consumer review (newegg.com)

Satisfied (has 16GB SSD for cache, but not advertised) yet disappointed

Battery life is realisticly about 6 hours.

Fast ; Comes with 16GB Sandisk SSD for ExpressCache Boot ; Comes with Windows 7 Pro ; Comes with Windows 8 Pro (DVD Recovery Set) ; 12800 4GB DDR3 Single stick

NO Windows 7 COA (BOOOOooo!) ; NO Windows 7 Recovery Media ; Picture is wrong, the laptop looks nothing like it ; No numeric keypad
