IBM ThinkPad X31

This ultraportable outshines the competition with its great design and easy-to-use keyboard.

The ThinkPad X31 is the near-perfect ultraportable notebook. If IBM could find a way to include an internal optical drive, too, this dream machine would be complete.

Service and support

ThinkPad X31

Versatile design; tons of hardware and software features; great performance; awesome battery life; includes both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Keyboard feels a little cramped; can't insert extended battery in Ultrabase; stingy stuck-pixel policy.

With loads of features, speedy performance, and awesome battery life, the ThinkPad X31 series is the ultimate ultraportable for executives on the go.

IBM ThinkPad X31

The IBM ThinkPad X31 costs a bit more than the other ultraportables here, but this 3.6-pound wonder is more than worth its price tag. The X31 is the only ultraportable in this roundup with the Pentium M processor. In our testing, the X31 significantly...

IBM ThinkPad X31 Review (pics, specs)

IBM ThinkPad X31 (Centrino)

If you had read our previous review on the ThinkPad X30, you would have known that one of our primary gripe with that notebook was its harddisk - which ran at a heart-wrenching 4,200RPM. Well, IBM ships the X31 with a default 4,200RPM harddisk as well,...

IBM ThinkPad X31 Review

The IBM ThinkPad X31, light enough that you don't have to be a champion bodybuilder to carry it. But it skips features that some would consider to be absolute necessities such as optical drives. Recommended more for business people than for students....

The X31 is also a Centrino-based model. Intel's Centrino platform is the combination Pentium M, i855 chipset, and integrated wireless card solution. Manufacturers that include all of these Intel parts are allowed to use the Centrino trademark when...
