Surface Book 3 15-inch review: Beautiful, yet limited

The Surface Book 3 offers a few hardware upgrades, but its unique design is clearly holding it back against more powerful competitors. It's still a compelling option for creatives, but be aware there are far faster machines for the same price.

Materials feels high quality ; Excellent screen ; Better GPU than Surface Book 2

Hardware isn’t as fast as the competition ; Heavy ; Detachable screen isn’t very useful

Microsoft Surface Book 3 review: Graphics unleashed

Microsoft's most adventurous laptop, the Surface Book 3, has been upgraded with extra power under the hood. Is that enough to keep this aging design fresh?

Unique 2-in-1 design ; Big, sharp display ; Powerful graphics ; Great video editing performance ; Excellent keyboard

Limited processor performance ; Very overpriced ; Reduced battery life

Microsoft Surface Book 3 (15-Inch) Review

Unique detachable design ; Powerful graphics processor ; Many configuration options ; Comfortable keyboard ; Dual 1080p cameras ; Beautiful PixelSense display

Pricey ; Keyboard base adds significant weight

With an advanced mechanical locking system for the keyboard base, powerful graphics processing, multiple cameras and batteries, and a brilliant near-4K display, the Surface Book 3 is an innovative, excellent detachable laptop.

Microsoft Surface Book 3 (15-inch) review: more power, more problems

The Surface Book 3 is held back by a design that hasn't changed in nearly five years

Great keyboard ; 3:2 nearly 4K display ; GPU performance

No Thunderbolt 3 support ; Hinge detach and GPU reliability issues ; Battery life underwhelming

The Microsoft Surface Book 3 is still a unique machine for a unique audience. It has a 10th Gen quad-core i7, up to 32GB of RAM, up to 2TB SSD storage, and Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Max Q GPU.

Microsoft Surface Book 3 (15-inch) review

The Surface Book 3 is a magical laptop/tablet hybrid but past shortcomings haven't been addressed

High-res display gets very bright ; Attractive looks and premium feel ; Comfortable keyboard ; Long battery life (in laptop mode) ; Reliable IR camera

Thick and heavy ; Middling performance for its class ; No Thunderbolt 3 and only one USB-C ; Expensive

Microsoft's Surface Book 3 isn't much of an upgrade but it remains the best solution for those who need a tablet and laptop in one device.

The Microsoft Surface Book 3 (15-Inch) Review: A Refreshing Dip Into Ice Lake

The PC industry has introduced some remarkably exciting designs over the last five years or so. Some of those designs, such as the thin-bezel laptop, have been adopted by almost all players in the industry. Microsoft has certainly been an innovator in...

The Surface Book 3 still does fulfill its role though as a very powerful laptop, built with premium materials, and offering some unique features. The upgrades for 2020 were necessary to keep the design relevant, even if is relatively unchanged on the...

Review: Surface Book 3 delivers more of the same — and that's (mostly) good

Microsoft's Surface Book 3 doesn't veer far from the late-2017 version, but it does refresh nearly all the internal hardware. The results deliver impressive performance in an Ultrabook laptop. Surface Book 3 is the top of its class despite these minor...

Excellent build quality with unique design ; Very good graphics performance ; All-day battery life ; It does nearly everything

Design is getting old ; No Dolby Vision/HDR ; No anti-glare display

From $1,399 at Microsoft Bottom line : Surface Book 3 (15-inch) doesn't change much from the previous version ... except all the internal hardware. That results in a very powerful 2-in-1 15-inch convertible that still has few peers. Luckily, Surface...

Very hard to upgrade; The tablet has a very short battery life by itself; The GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q works at a lower TGP after a couple of minutes of load

Microsoft Surface Book 3 15-inch review: Still unique, still expensive

The Microsoft Surface Book 3 is a beautiful piece of industrial engineering with a unique design you can't find anywhere else. But it lacks some of the improvements you'd expect to see after almost three years.

Fantastic keyboard ; Great industrial design ; Good battery life ; Unique functionality ; Beautiful, sharp display ; SD card slot

Expensive for the specs ; Quiet speakers ; Dim display ; Restrained performance
