Toshiba Mini NB255-N245 Netbook is Perfect for Back to School

Back to school time is fast approaching so you need to get the supplies that you will need for your classes. There are so many things you will need it can get expensive. If you are on a tight budget then a Netbook is a less expensive alternative to a...

Followup to "This is the One"

A spare battery of the same size as the one that came with it should give one 12 hours of computing... Enough so that I would personally be comfortable with spending a whole weekend away from a power outlet with this ultra-portable machine. I wouldn't...

Here is the update I promised on the 5 Nov. I rec'd the memory uprade and installed it in three minutes...took longer to find a small screw driver than to remove the memory cover and slip the old memory out and replace it with the 2 gb upgrade doubling...

Keyboard is a little tight but acceptable. Be careful of the batter where it attaches to the back of computer...there is some play in that connection and you can't expect to lift it by the battery...other than that, I have not had any problems with...

Great netbook, horrible battery

This would be a great little netbook if the battery consumption was slightly better. My Mini 10 lasted me about 14 hours on a charge before it died of the black screen of death. Same specifications, different chipset and graphics.

This netbook's size and weight make it the ideal netbook for carrying around at work, school, or even at home. With a 2GB RAM upgrade, this would be sufficient for schoolwork or working at home/on the go that doesn't require any intense graphics...

Before I start, I'd like to say I purchased Newegg's extended warranty. When I first received the netbook, it took awhile to fully charge. I figured, this could be due to it sitting on a shelf for a long time and the battery lost its charge. Wrong....

This is the ONE

Remember what this is: a NETBOOK and don't order it if you want to do graphics or multimedia. General computing tasks i.e. browsing, word processing, emai, social networking, and the like. Replaced the Windows 7 Starter with Linux Mint 9 Isadora, Main...

If you need a basic machine that is ultra-portable, Linux compatible, able to operate on battery for 5 hours ; Has WEBCAM, has SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) flash drive port on front of unit. status lights on front of unit easily visible....

Keyboard is small compared to full laptops and desktops and takes some getting used ; Performance is noticeably slower than my dual core notebook, but not unacceptably soitouously slow

Battery life

The battery life is 5-6 hours under light use, power saving features invoked and normal screen brightness.

Is quiet

The cylindrical battery protrudes and is weak mechanically

Good netbook for cheap

I recommend buying the memory upgrade immediately. There is no reason to keep the original 1 gig of memory when you can step up to 2 gigs for almost nothing.

So far so good. The keys are solid feeling and easy to press. Long battery life. Doesn't get smoldering hot. Can't say whether the 1 gig memory is enough, cause I switched it out for 2 gigs immediately. Plays video fairly well, but can still lag a bit....

Window 7 starter is basically what you need for this type of device. I can't see what you would need anything else for. It's not like your going to use the thing for editing video! Just download Microsoft security essentials, and don't even bother with...

Everything I expected

As others have said: This is not meant to be a main computer replacement, or even a laptop replacement. The size and power of this thing is for a very specific use: internet access. Anything beyond that is a bonus. RAM UPGRADE: I see people install...

All I wanted was an inexpensive way to get on the internet. This netbook does that perfectly ; This thing is nice to have around if you have to troubleshoot other computers. Just carry it around, hookup to the internet, research the issue, download...

Only has 1GB RAM installed. I knew this at the time of purchase, but it's still a little annoying having to pay for it, just to replace it with a 2GB stick. It functions on 1GB (turn off the windows eye candy), but it's so much smoother on 2GB ; AC...

Just Awesome..

XP was quite a pain to install with the provided drivers that Toshiba hosts. I ended up installing the chip-set, card reader and audio drivers from windows 7 and that worked beautifully. The video drivers I had to manfully get from Intel.com and the...

Thee best, YES THE BEST keyboard I have every used ; Outstanding Battery Life ; Great Screen ; Great Materials For Build (NO FINGERPRINTS)

Windows 7 is just a tad slow I like xp for my net-books

Limited use of Linux allowed

I am unhappy and angry at Toshiba (not at Newegg) with this purchase. Would like to return, but there are fees. I should have bought another laptop, from Lenovo or HP perhaps.

Mechanical design is not bad

Fn-Fx keys do not work with Linux. Open source codes do not help. As a result, brightness of the screen cannot be changed, output of video cannot be easily redirect to external monitor, and wireless chip cannot be shut down. There are a few other minor...

U will love it

I have the NB205 model which is older and i'm loving it. Yeah its slow, even after upgrading the memory to 2GB, but hey its a netbook, gets me plenty of battery life to watch po..do school work for 8-9 hours ; The nb255-245 is better, only thing i see...
