MSI S271 Ultra Compact Notebook Review

The S271 is made with a durable yet trendy aluminum and magnesium alloy, and is equipped with a Super Glare Type 12″ WXGA LCD, an ATI UMA embedded graphics display interface, and digital surround sound.

Beautiful 12.1" wide screen display, Extremely light and compact, Good performance, Very stylist and trendy looking

Right side exhaust can heat up your hand, Battery life could be better

The MSI S271 is a very good looking notebook. The shape reminds us a lot of the Apple Powerbook and we're sure that was the look MSI was going for. If you don't like the business like black, the S271 can be ordered up in a range of difference colors

MSI MegaBook S271 review

Strong mobility and a stunning screen, but poor performance

Bright and colourful screen ; Nice and affordable

Poor battery life ; Performance isn't quite what expected

In spite of its mobility and price, the Megabook doesn't quite cut the mustard

MSI Megabook S271

Being a TurionX2 processor on an ATI Xpress1100 chipset, it should be having decent performance, even for light gaming.

Sleek, Good value for money, Decent performance, Light weight, Good battery life

No Web-Cam, 512 MB System memory

MSI has done an excellent job with the MegaBook S271 and for a company not that well known for its notebook computers, I was very surprised with this product. The MegaBook S271 looks more like a playful accessory that makes you feel and look as though...

Consumer review (newegg.com)

stay away from

I contacted MSI and they said that now plans were in the works to update the BIOS, which lacks some basic customizability also. I had to contact newegg and they ultamately made it right like they always do.

the hardware specsheet is very impressive

the BIOS doesn't support ACPI, thus this computer won't support Vista (contrary to the sticker) or any linux with a 2.4 or 2.6 kernel. Also you'll have trouble installing your own version of xp. the msi version thats supplied is actually an image that...

Does the job with ease

I travel alot, and this is alot easier to carry through airports than my previous notebook. I bought an extra stick of memory, but according to MSI, if you remove the security sticker that's over one of the screws on the back, the warranty is void.

Small, lightweight. All in all, a powerful little pc

Can't upgrade it yourself, it has to be returned to MSI
