Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite review: What does it take to make an $800 version of a $1,400 Ultrabook?

Samsung naturally had to cut corners to make an $800 version of its flagship Ultrabook, but the performance and battery life here are inferior compared to other laptops in this price range.

Thin and light, especially for a machine in this price range ; Low-glare display ; Comfortable keyboard ; Fast disk speeds

Performance hiccups ; Short battery life ; Touchscreen wobbles when you touch it ; Finicky trackpad

The ATIV Book 9 Lite sounded like a good idea. In fact, the sales pitch was remarkably straightforward: Here's a machine that looks generally like the high-end ATIV Book 9 Plus, but costs a lot less. The problem is, the Book 9 Lite ultimately rests too...

Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite review

Well-built and boasting an excellent keyboard, the ATIV Book 9 Lite could be a real contender among affordable laptops. Unfortunately, it's let down by the processor, which offers netbook-grade performance and merely average battery life.

Samsung’s ATIV Book 9 Lite is an interesting, but failed, experiment. There are many things that we like about it; the keyboard is easy to love, the chassis is slim, and build quality is good for the price. If the Lite sold with a fourth-gen Intel...

Samsung Ativ Book 9 (2015) review

Before Apple even announced its slim, lightweight 12-inch MacBook , Samsung had already released a nearly identical product. First seen at CES 2015, the Samsung Ativ Book 9 matches the MacBook nearly spec for spec.

Samsung fits a good number of ports into its very slim 12-inch Ativ Book 9. The system gets the best battery life to date from a Windows system running a Core M processor.

Shorter battery life than Apple's very similar 12-inch MacBook, and a matching configuration costs more. The lack of a touch screen and small touch pad aren't ideal for Windows 8.

This very usable 12-inch laptop is a good, if expensive, tool for websurfing and casual use, but would benefit from better battery life.

Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite

The Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite entry-level DTR laptop has a great looking design, but with mediocre performance, it's all sizzle, no steak.

Slim chassis and lightweight design. Affordable price. Speedy solid-state drive.

Lackluster battery life. Miserable performance from Samsung's mystery processor.

Conclusion All told, the Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite may have a passing resemblance to the highly rated Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus, but it's only skin deep. Even among other entry-level ultrabooks and desktop replacements, the Book 9 Lite has frustratingly...

Samsung Ativ Book 9 Lite review: It's like a laptop for your Galaxy phone

Unless you intend to take full advantage of Samsung's SideSync technology, you'll find far better notebooks on the market.

SideSync is a good feature—if you have a Samsung mobile device ; Smooth, accurate touchscreen ; Good overall performance

SideSync is difficult to set up ; Trackpad feels cheap ; Lots of bloatware

The Ativ Book 9 Lite is a good notebook if you also own a mobile Samsung device and intend to use the two together; otherwise, it's just average.

Samsung Ativ Book 9 Lite review: 'Sleek' and 'budget' hard to mix

Swapping a plastic design and AMD processor into a laptop aspiring to budget greatness doesn't work in this case. The Book 9 Lite is functional, but you can do better.

The ; has a touch screen, feels reasonably sleek, and handles everyday tasks reasonably well.

A plastic design, underwhelming display and battery life, and underpowered AMD processing.

Samsung’s latest budget spin on a Windows touch-screen, AMD-powered, ultrabook-esque laptop has some flair, but the corners it cuts aren't worth the money saved.

Samsung Ativ Book 9 Lite marble white

The perfect sweet-spot $799 touch-screen Windows 8 ultrabook has been made already : we've reviewed several, in fact. But, those configurations tend to get discontinued.

Review Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite 905S3G-K01DE Subnotebook

Ultraslim - the AMD way. Samsung's rather expensive ATIV Book 9 Plus was released some time ago and has been called the "most beautiful Ultrabook" by some. The ATIV Book 9 Lite uses AMD components and is offered at a more palatable price point. What...

Thin and elegant; Reasonable stiff base unit; Matte display panel; Good keyboard; Quiet even under load; Low power consumption

Comparatively low performance; Low battery capacity hampers battery life; Pricey

We still don't know how Samsung modified the quad-core APU. Subjectively, the performance of the SSD-equipped notebook is quite good.

Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite (NP905S3G) User Review

The Samsung Series 9 premium notebooks get lightweight and less pricey with the ATIV Book 9 Lite. Is this "plastic fantastic" or just a cheaper Samsung laptop?

Non-glare non-touchscreen (a glossy touchscreen version is available for those who want it) ; Cool and quiet ; Reasonably affordable ; SSD with 10 second startup time.

Relatively slow CPU ; Moderate battery capacity ; Needs special dongles for the network and VGA devices ; Limited potential for hardware upgrades
