Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 review: One step forward, two steps back

The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 dials back the high-end features for a more affordable price. Was the compromise too much?

QLED screen is gorgeous ; Rock solid design ; Responsive, quiet keyboard ; Fast performance

Thick bottom bezel ; Sloppy touchpad

Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 Review

Spiffy QLED touch screen ; Snazzy Fiesta Red design ; Wi-Fi 6 support

Lowly Celeron CPU, minimal memory and storage ; Weak performance for the price ; No HDMI or USB Type-A ports ; Stylus not included

Samsung's QLED-screened Galaxy Chromebook 2 is a smart-looking, sub-3-pound portable, but it's a 98-pound weakling when it comes to performance.

Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 review: premium in the right ways

The best of Chrome OS for less.

Bright, vibrant design ; Good QLED display ; Acceptable battery life!

Expensive for what it offers ; eMMC storage ; Bit of a plasticky feel

Samsung’s latest Chromebook, the Galaxy Chromebook 2, starts at $549 and includes a fiery red chassis and an excellent QLED screen. It’s a bit expensive for the specs it offers, particularly the slow eMMC storage, but still has plenty going for it.

Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 review: the world’s first QLED Chrome OS laptop

The world's first QLED-equipped Chromebook

Colorful, vibrant display ; Stunning crimson-red chassis ; Lightweight and ultra slim ; Decent speakers

Stingy on ports ; So-so battery life ; Middling performance ; No S-Pen compatibility

The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 is the world’s first QLED Chrome OS laptop, but its so-so performance on our tests makes it a questionable choice for prospective Chromebook buyers.

Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 review: The Chromebook you really want

The Galaxy Chromebook 2's QLED display, improved battery life and sleek design make this a compelling premium Chromebook, even though you need to make some trade-offs.

Beautiful design ; Gorgeous QLED display ; Improved battery life ; Impressive audio quality ; Solid performance

Key travel could be better ; Touchscreen input can be inconsistent ; No S-Pen included

Overall, the lower price of entry makes Samsung’s latest premium Chromebook a compelling choice for those seeking a Chrome OS laptop with style.

Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 review: CLEARLY a sequel... (video)

The Galaxy Chromebook 2 is a pretty neat little package. It's what I'd call a more logical high-end Chromebook. This is our Galaxy Chromebook 2 review.

Great Product! came fast in the mail and is perfect for someone in school.

-Super light -Full HD -Great battery -Typing is easy and fast

-really nitpicking but the box it came in was HUGE -even at the fastest setting, the mouse speed isnt very fast -this maybe a ChromeOS issue but the resolution is ether too small or too big

Chromebook 2, whoo hoo!

Detractors of the Chromebook should research in advance what they are getting if they switch from a "traditional" laptop. I hope Google continues to support the Chromebook as the Chrome OS becomes Android centric. It would be nice to just be able to go...

Love the bigger screen and quicker response with my Chromebook 2. The 4GB memory does make a difference, too. Had a Samsung 11.6-inch previously with 2GB. Haven't put too many of the other features to work, but it seems to be going just fine a little...

Glitch encountered with refurbished machine on Chromecast. It took a restore to original condition to get over a glitch that would not allow downloading of the cast extension from the Chrome Web Store. I called Google support and none of the staff...

Great Value

Considering this is refurbished, I'm really loving this computer. I exclusively use it for word documents and internet browsing (to limit distractions). The lack of bloatware or other common issues with other operating systems means a quick start up,...

1) Lightweight 2) Easy to Use 3) Sleek design 4) Minimalist UI reduces on-screen clutter 5) Quick Charging, long (8-9 hours) battery life. Easy access

1) Initial boot-up and first time use is slow, since the computer is installing all of your extensions and Google Apps 2) Wifi connection isn't always stable (but to be fair, this may also be an issue with my router) 3) The refurbished price wasn't...

My First Chromebook

I love this Chromebook. I bought it specifically because it uses the latest big.LITTLE Arm processor technology and has 4GB of system RAM. Although this is new technology, it is working better than I expected. Crouton allows me to chroot into Ubuntu at...

Long Battery Life, (8 hours) Light-weight, Doesn't get hot Nicely Made -- nice screen Good price for what you get.

To fully enjoy this, I installed Crouton. This requires some tech savvy and disabling the Chrome OS verification check on boot. In Ubuntu, you cannot run Wine apps on an Arm processor (nor Skype)
