Samsung Series 9 review (13-inch, mid-2012)

With a smart design, fast boot-up and long battery life, the Series 9 is among the best Ultrabooks you can buy right now.

Beautiful, exceptionally thin designBest-in-class battery lifeFast boot-upBright, matte display

Trackpad could use more fine-tuningPricey compared to similar Ultrabooks

In recent weeks, we've been receiving an uptick in emails from readers, asking for help in choosing an Ultrabook (not the most affordable Ultrabook, but the best -- our fans do tend to be spec-obsessed, after all). While we can't outright make a...

Samsung Series 9 review (15-inch, mid-2012)

More Info Samsung Series 9 (NP900X3A) laptop review Samsung unveils redesigned Series 9 laptops with 13- and 15-inch displays,

Remarkably thin and light for its size ; Long battery life, fast performance ; Bright, matte display

Shallow keyboard, so-so trackpad ; Narrow viewing angles ; Unimpressive audio for the money

The Series 9 dazzles with its performance and striking design, but a machine this pricey deserves a comfier keyboard and even nicer display.

Samsung Series 9 review (13-inch, mid-2012)

Samsung's Series 9 laptops have a lot to prove. Since the day Samsung showed the first one off at CES last year, they've consistently been priced higher than the equivalent MacBook Air, and that...

Strong, stunning design ; Excellent matte screen ; Half an inch thick

Runs uncomfortably hot ; Stiff keyboard ; No upgrades

Samsung nearly nails the gold... but will take bronze home

Samsung Series 9 (NP900X3A-B01UB)

It's not technically an ultrabook, but the updated, 2.9-pound Samsung Series 9 (NP900X3A-B01UB) is a highly attractive ultraportable.

Elegantly slim design. Bright screen. Backlit keyboard. WiDi.

Access to ports is awkward. Sealed battery.

Review: Samsung Series 9

Samsung's Series 9 laptop has the looks to compete with other ultrabooks on the market, but its premium price doesn't match its sub-par performance.

An all-around capable ultrabook, with thoughtful features and a quality design. Dazzlingly bright screen. Average battery life (about 4.5 hours)

Much too expensive. Surprisingly lackluster performance, particularly at graphical tasks. SOL if you need a full SD card reader. Bummer clickpad problems

Samsung Series 9 (Microsoft)

The Samsung Series 9 (Microsoft) is every bit as luxurious, thin, and well-equipped as the Apple MacBook Air 13-inch—and it'll cost you just as much.

Ruggedized, sleek aluminum design. Powerful Core i5 Sandy Bridge processor. 6 hours of battery life. Third USB port and Ethernet are features you don't get with the MacBook Air 13-inch. Backlit keyboard. Excellent typing experience. Anti-glare screen.

Expensive. Ports are difficult to access.

Samsung Series 9 (13 in) review

If every action has an equal and opposite reaction, then consider the Samsung Series 9 NP900X3A to be a direct response to Apple's MacBook Air . It's been a long time since we've seen two laptops so seemingly intertwined--in purpose, design,...

A thin, stylish design, long battery life, excellent screen, and a new second-generation Intel Core i5 CPU make the Samsung Series 9 NP900X3A one of the best ultrathin Windows laptops we've ever seen.

The Series 9's way-too-high sticker price makes the MacBook Air look downright affordable by comparison; the flexy case design doesn't feel as good as the MacBook Air's, either.

The $1,649 Samsung Series 9 NP900X3A certainly won't be for every wallet, but this light, well-featured, and striking 13-incher is the closest the Windows world will ever come to a MacBook Air. However, its higher-than-the-Air price will be hard to...
