Toshiba Portege R400-S4931 Tablet PC (1.20GHz Core Duo U2500, 2GB DDR2, 80GB, DVDRW DL, Windows Vista Ultimate, 12.1" TFT)

Despite recent rave reviews for its ultraportable convertible tablet, the Portege M200, Toshiba seems to have taken a step backward with its new Portege R400-S4931. It is for the most part a successful--and fashionable-looking--notebook, with good...

Vista Sideshow LCD ; Two bundled batteries

Optical drive not built-in ; Lacks FireWire and built-in modem

In a classic case of early implementation of features, the Portege R400 sees Toshiba celebrate technology more than quality.

Review: Toshiba Portégé R400 Tablet PC

We debated whether we should reveal the Portégé R400's price tag up front or save it for a surprise ending. OK, here goes: It's $3,500,...

Striking looks may have you confusing this laptop for a Mac. WAN system works flawlessly — a rarity for Vista notebooks. Mediocre 2 1/2 hours battery life is bolstered by an enormous, included, power slab. Screen is crazy bright: The 12.1-inch display...

Spring-loaded hinge tends to slam the lid shut violently. Only two measly USB ports. Touchpad and mouse buttons are too small and placed too far to the right. Second mortgage required to cover cost

Toshiba Portégé R400-S4931

The Toshiba Portégé R400-S4931 is a sexy and light convertible tablet that takes advantage of much of what Windows Vista has to offer.

Sexy design. Light and forearm-friendly. Vista Ultimate edition. Gorgeous widescreen for media mavens. SideShow LCD display. Integrated EV-DO antenna.

Low-powered. Too many proprietary applications loaded.

Toshiba Portege R400

If money is no object for you, the Toshiba Portege R400 is an eye-catching Windows Vista conversation piece, but the rest of us will want more performance from a system this expensive.

Excellent design; secondary OLED display provides useful info when the lid is closed, easy to use EV-DO.

Disappointing performance and battery life; ridiculously expensive.

Toshiba Port?g? R400-S4931

Unlike the Port?g? M400 Series, the R400 has a widescreen format. Its finish is similar to the glossy type found on the tx1000 and perfect for media mavens who devote their time watching movies and videos (on sites such as YouTube and MovieLink or from...

The Toshiba Port?g? R400-S4931 is one of the lightest, sexiest convertible tablets I've seen, showcasing many of the neat features found in Windows Vista Ultimate.

Innovative elegance. Toshiba's ProtÄ'©gÄ'© R400 provides leading edge ...

Unique design, Sophisticated design, Light and handy, Brightness, and contrast of the screen, Typing almost noiseless, Auxiliary LCD screen

Case gets considerably warmer, Fan audible without load, Viewing angles of the screen, Inadequate battery run time, Scant interfaces, No optical drive

Besides a nice outlook, this notebooks impresses by sophisticated design

Toshiba Portege R400 Hands On Review (Video)

One of the two major notebook/Tablet PC announcements at CES was the Toshiba Portege R400. We were able to log a few minutes with the machine to develop an initial impression

Finally, the wireless docking solution is a very innovative feature that many will be interested in with the R400. Basically what happens is that when you put the notebook within 3 feet of the wireless docking solution that uses UWB (Ultra Wide Band)...
