Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV650 HD DVD notebook reviewed

We suppose comparing Toshiba's HD DVD laptop, the Qosmio G35-AV650, to Sony's full-fledged RC310G Blu-ray desktop might be a bit unfair, but so far they're the only systems with next-gen drives we've spotted reviews for. For starters, as a laptop the...

Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV650 - AVPC Laptop (2GHz Core Duo, 1GB DDR2, 200GB, HD-DVD-ROM/DVD+R DL, Windows XP Media Center, 17

Toshiba's latest luxury notebook, the Qosmio G35-AV650, is the first notebook available with an HD DVD drive for playing high-definition content. We looked at a shipping unit, and we liked many of the heavy portable's outstanding audiovisual extras....

Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV660 Notebook (2GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB DDR2, 240GB, HD DVD-ROM/DVDA?RW DL, Windows XP Media Center, 17

The best all-in-one entertainment laptop just got better. The Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV660 is only a minor tweak of the G35-AV650, a 17-inch-screen desktop replacement with cutting-edge multimedia features. But now you can work and play a little faster...

Beautiful screen ; RAID-configurable hard drives

Heavy and expensive

The Qosmio can't be beat for the ultimate notebook multimedia experience. It's big and heavy, but includes tons of extras.

Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV660

The successor to the overhyped, HD DVD-ROM-equipped Qosmio G35-AV650, Toshiba's Qosmio G35-AV660 makes a promising second attempt.

Smooth HD playback with Toshiba's proprietary software. IR receiver built into the laptop. Fast Intel Core 2 Duo processor. 2GB of RAM.

QosmioPlayer does not support HD playback in preboot mode. Volume has to be cranked up when using Toshiba HD DVD player. Even more expensive than before.

Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV660 review

Though its model name has changed very little, the Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV660 has seen a number of significant changes over the G35-AV600 released earlier this year. Notably, this new edition includes the latest Core 2 Duo processor and adds a built-in...

Crisp display; complete set of A/V controls, ports, and connections, including an HD-DVD drive.

Expensive; somewhat dim display; cramped keyboard and no separate number pad; bulky and heavy, even for a desktop replacement.

The Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV660 continues to deliver the most complete multimedia experience available in a laptop, but at least one other laptop delivers similar features at a much lower price.

Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV600 Laptop

As if the first Qosmio Windows Media Center Edition notebooks didn't kick enough multimedia booty with instant-on TV, a slot-fed DVD burner, awesome Harman/Kardon speakers and a cool volume dial, the latest Qosmio adds hi-fi sound.

Disappointing gaming performance

By May, an updated model, the Qosmio G35-AV650, will be available with a high-definition optical drive for playing the handful of available HD DVD movies. The company couldn't say when the Qosmio would be available with a high-definition TV tuner for...

Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV600 review: Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV600

Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV600 Since its debut in August 2004, Toshiba's Qosmio line has been at the forefront of laptop technology. With the third-generation model, the Qosmio G35-AV600, Toshiba again delivers a best-in-class multimedia experience that's...

Bright, crisp display; complete set of A/V controls, ports, and connections, including built-in TV tuner and high-end audio features; Core Duo CPU delivers powerful performance; slot-loading, double-layer DVD burner; excellent software.

Subpar gaming performance; display resolution could be higher; small touch pad and mouse buttons; no separate number pad; no touch pad on/off button; bulky and heavy, even for a desktop replacement.

With the Qosmio G35-AV600, Toshiba delivers a best-in-class multimedia experience that's built on a state-of-the-art set of components and includes virtually every feature under the sun.

Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV600

First off, I didn't think a Qosmio laptop could get any heavier, but going from the G25's 9.4 pounds to the G35's 9.9 pounds is a significant increase. Needless to say, the size and weight of this notebook indicates that it should stay on your desk....

A plethora of A/V features. Multifunctional touchpad. Fingerprint reader. Intel Core Duo processor

Low-end graphics chipset. Heavier than its predecessor, the Qosmio G25-AV513

The Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV600 offers the most complete set of high-end multimedia features of any Media Center laptop available.
